Xfinity stream goes to a commercial break and never comes back

This just started happening today. In the past, I have had problems with the volume being muted or the picture being frozen upon return from a commercial, but this is the first time that it never returns at all. I know that the programming is working because I can see it on my Regular television. I’m running on the latest iPad with the latest iOS. Used to work fine just started today.

I should add that the channel I watch is Fox News.

@user_stdwzw​ I'm having the same issue and it's primarily on Fox News channel. It is so frequent, that it's impossible to watch TV without having to back out of the Fox app and re-boot back into it. It seems more problematic when the commercial break is one inserted from a local business rather than from a Fox network affiliate.  In order to enjoy TV programming, I have to access the Xfinity app through my Amazon Fire TV stick where viewing is not interrupted. Xfinity Streaming is a horrible product that is constantly having issues. Unfortunately, Xfinity continues to raise monthly costs but never seems to be able to correct the streaming issues.

Is this happening when you watch Fox News at home on your cable box as well, or does it only affect the Stream app? Do you notice the same thing when you watch TV through our online streaming site

Can you tell me a little more about what's happening with your app? The original post mentioned it was going to commercial and not coming back. Is it going to a commercial break and just freezing on a blank screen, or is it playing an endless loop of commercials without ever returning to the show? Is this happening on DVR Recordings, OnDemand content, or both? Is it happening with every program on every channel, or is it isolated to a single network? Any details you can share will help narrow down where this might be coming from. Thank you in advance!

I am having a problem also on the xumo box, the program goes to commercial but doesn't show the picture when returning. It still has sound of the program all the time & commercial also. But the picture doesn't return, have to back out and reset the program through the xumo box again?

Same issue.  Xfinity Stream app has a bug.  Stops after inserted commercial.  Samsung smart tv.  Added a firestick and problem solved.  All channels affected within stream

I have been suffering for several months with this issue, on several channels of the xfinity streaming app on Samsung tv.  I’m ready to leave xfinity if they can’t resolve this.  I have tried everything suggested.

Same here - it is extremely frustrating to see a deterioration of services while raising rates AT LEAST annually now - oh and reducing the rewards in their reward program don't forget.

Hello, @user_pr1azf! I am sorry to hear that the Xfinity Stream app is giving you trouble. I checked and so far this is not listed as a known issue that our engineers are working on. So far this would be worked on for individual accounts. Can you tell me what troubleshooting steps you tried? Are you noticing this across all programs/networks you watch or just specific ones?

Having the same exact issue! Samsung TV with Xfinity Stream app. Commercials on Fox News channel lock it up and send it to attempting to resume screen. Yes, it does seem to happen more with local business commercials. Have to exit channel, go back to menu, and reselect Fox News channel. Can watch until commercials lock it up again. Over and over……

The same problem with my Samsung TV using Xfinity Stream. Goes to commercial and just get message “trying to resume. Watching Fox News is the worse channel most likely because Xfinity is owned by liberal NBC. It does occur on other channels sometimes. I tried using support that could not fix it. I then wrote a letter to the company’s president, but not holding my breath. Looking a moving to another streaming service.

Away from home using the fox news app with xfinity as my provider when I access. The channel goes to commercial and then never comes back. Have tried all solutions in previous suggestions

Hi @user_257dea, I know how annoying it is when you’re trying to catch the news and the app just gets stuck in commercial loop. This issue is often related to how the network (Fox) delivers specific ad content to your device while you're on a non-Xfinity network. 

One effective workaround is to exit the live stream and re-enter the channel through your "Recently Watched" or "Previously Viewed" menu rather than the standard guide, which often bypasses the frozen ad segment.

 

You should also check the Privacy or Ad-Tracking settings on your device or browser, if "Limit Ad Tracking" is active, the Fox stream may fail to resume because it cannot verify the commercial played.

Additionally, try switching to the Xfinity Stream app, as it often handles out-of-home "TV Go" handoffs more reliably than third-party apps.

I wrote the President of Comcast and he had a guy named Jacob from Comcast Executive Customer Relations call me twice but I did not answer in time so I called him back and left him a voice mail. He then left me an email so I returned the email stating I called him back but a week later got an email stating my complaint was close so I still have the problem.. No action

I am surely having the same issue.  Most commercial breaks do not come back smoothly on Samsung these days.  They get stuck and repeat endlessly and show other errors at times.  Mostly the commercials just freeze with no sound or the new programming sound starts while seeing the frozen screen.   I have reinstalled the app a few times. I see lots of samsung users have this issue. It is also present on most of my Samsung TVs, but not all oddly enough.  The older TVs are not getting the same update and are fine, like this app used to be for all Samsungs.

When is xfinity going to resolve these issues???? I’ve been having these issues since Sept 2025, when they updated software.  Still no answers.  But, I do get sent posts on the same subject, so I see I’m not alone.  How long is this going to take?
