Hi @user_lc2801

Hi @Maureengill -

The Xfinity TV Remote App is no longer available. If you still have it on your device, you may see missing content, blank screens, error messages, and/or information about upgrading to X1 service (even if you have X1), depending on which operating system your phone uses and which functions you attempt to use.

The good news is that almost all of the content and functionality in the Xfinity TV Remote App for scheduling DVR Recordings, Viewing Program listings and more has been incorporated into the Xfinity Stream App.

If you are looking for the ability to control your TV via a mobile device, this functionality is available by using our Web Remote.  Just access http://remote.xfinity.com on your phone, tablet, or computer's web browser (such as Chrome, Safari, or Edge).

If you'd like to create a shortcut on your Apple iOS or Android mobile device, I have provided some instructions below, which may vary a bit depending on the device you're using.

Creating a shortcut on an iPhone or iPad

  1. Launch Safari on your ‌iPhone‌ or ‌iPad‌.
  2. Navigate to remote.xfinity.com
  3. Log in with your username and password. If you wish, check the box to "Stay Signed In."
  4. If prompted, choose the TV Box you'd like to control
  5. Tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow pointing out of it) at the bottom of the screen.
  6. Scroll down to the list of actions and tap Add to Home Screen.
  7. Name the Shortcut and tap Add. You should now have an icon that you can tap to access the web remote quickl!

Creating a shortcut on an Android phone using Chrome

  1. Launch Chrome app.
  2. Navigate to remote.xfinity.com
  3. Type your username and password. If you wish, check the box to "Stay Signed In." to make it faster to access next time
  4. Tap Menu icon (3 dots in upper right-hand corner) and tap Add to home screen.
  5. Click Install as an App or Create Shortcut and follow the prompts to Install or Save.
  6. You should now have an icon that you can tap to access your web remote quickly.

I hope this helps!

This does not answer as to why the app was discontinued, I very much regret deleting the app from my iPad, thinking that I would be able to reinstall it, only to find it was gone from the App Store. I have used this app exclusively since it was introduced, as I see from other posts, others also used it and were upset by its removal. Have not seen a satisfactory answer as to why it was discontinued! Please explain.

Hey there, @Rpl_1, thanks for reaching out through Xfinity Forums. We do not have any specific details as to why the app was removed. We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience. If you deleted the app from your device, you may be able to use the Xfinity Web Remote to view their channel guide and access selected content at remote.xfinity.com. Let us know if you have any additional questions!

The xfinity web remote is worthless. Why is xfinity so reluctant to reinstate the remote app and restore it to the App Store. I see that I am not the only one upset about this.

@XfinityBecker

This is NOT the same as the old TV Remote app. The old app allowed you to look at the guide without having the guide displayed on the TV screen. Pairing to get this iteration of the remote brings no ability to do what you could do with the old app on your phone or tablet. Xfinity did the once before and they eventually brought the remote app back. DO IT AGAIN!

Please bring it back. The web one is NOT the same and is limited.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to Xfinity Support here on our Community Forum @user_lc2801!  We are so glad to hear from you and want to help in any way that we can.  The app is functional but no longer available for download.

Who ever made this decision should be [Edit: Inflammatory]. It was a great app and now it’s difficult to do the same thing on the remote that I could do easily on my tv. Especially since my remote doesn’t work half the time and the Comcast store has none. Bring back this app

I absolutely agree!  What (expletive omitted) [Edit: Language] manager made the decision to “retire” this app?!?! Having to logon to your Comcast account from your phone (and all the time consuming and frustrating hassles that entails) is ABSOLUTELY NOT THE SAME THING OR FUNCTIONALITY AS THE TV REMOTE APP !

As “RDE” rightly states. I don’t want to have to go through all of that hassle just to check if “SNL” is a rerun or new tonight.  As he further stated, stop with the [Edit: inflammatory] answers to why Comcast dropped the app.

[Edit: inflammatory] I’ll believe that.

This is just like COMCAST previous “streaming app beta“ that worked great for a couple of years and then suddenly was replaced with a totally messed up, dysfunctional “streaming app“ that doesn’t work. Now I can’t use one of my TVs to watch Comcast because it’s on an inner wall Without a cable connection, and your new streaming app [edit: language]. The “beta“ app worked great.

Please reconsider bringing back the TV Remote App which  allows the ability to search On Demand content easy and quickly that the Xfinity Stream App does not support. For example, I can search for TV or Movies and find prior shows without having to tie up the TV with searching.  I could also search by specific Networks and Premium Channels that the Stream App does not support and launch them directly to the X1 TV box.  Also, Xfinity Stream only plays back on the IPad/IPhone and NOT to the TV.  So now you have to do double the work/effort.  For a company that wants to stop the cutting the cord you once again failed BIG time.

Couldn’t agree more!! So frustrating! Bring back the app functionality.

Mine quit working sometime today.  It worked this morning, now it won't retrieve the guide, or any DVR data.  PLEASE BRING IT BACK.  Even Roku has a remote app.

Hi there, @RDE I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.

On February 11, the Xfinity TV Remote app was retired. The app is no longer available for download or use, and customers who have it installed on their mobile devices will be unable to use it and/or may encounter errors. Customers can use one of these options as an alternative to the Xfinity TV Remote app:-Richard

This was a terrible action on your (Xfinity) part.  The web remote does not provide all the options I use.  Please see the message entered by user_diys06 as those comments are also mine.

Unfortunately the app returns an error.  Does not work at all.  I’d send a screenshot if I can figure out how.

Again the TV remote app is discontinued! What does Xfinity have against this app? Now I have to use 2 different devices to do what one app did flawlessly. The  Xfinity stream app does not give me the option to watch on my tv only my phone!

Bring back the mobile app! It’s the best thing Xfinity had for convenience. Put it back in the app stores! You have nothing like it in your current app. Reviewing the guide was easier, using the DVR functions were easier, the app was excellent. PUT IT BACK IN THE APP STORES.

$300+ a month? And no app ?

A lot of people who have disabilities use this app for very good reasons.

We can't see the guide from where we sit, or even standing in front of the tv for that matter.

People with disabilities NEED A APP.

Not multiple steps to find what we NEED to watch on on certain channels.

As a household with two people who have disabilities, we ne that app.

Did I mention disabilities?

We do apologize for any inconvenience as a customer myself I did like using the Xfinity remote app as well as it was a convenient way to control all my TV boxes and for me even to play jokes on my children. Since it's been retired and no longer available we do provide another option via https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/x1-accessible-tv-remote-web-app

We also do offer large button remotes https://www.xfinity.com/accessibility that also give you access to our awesome Xfinity voice remote functions

@user_c9boi2 sounds like a violation of the ADA laws since they had a simple app and now removed access

Bring back the app.  The website sucks and doesn’t do what the app did.  Or upgrade the website to do what the app did do great, show the guide on the device (iPhone, iPad, ect…and then let you change the channel).

@user_c9boi2    We have a disabled daughter and long story short, we need the app.  Considering buying a 3rd party device or switching to Century Link which has an app.

Type in Xfinity Web Remote in your browser and you’ll be able to use that!

You still have to browse/search for On Demand via the TV set whether you use the Web Remote or X1 Voice.

To watch new content you need to tie up the TV while searching and if you want to watch at the 8 oclock you need an hour before hand to browse search movies or tv shows.  It takes that much time to do the same search via the App.

This is totally unacceptable. Your other app does not work like this one and isnt a suitable replacement.  [Edited: "All Caps"]

Hi all -

I know there was a small but passionate userbase of the Xfinity Remote app (including myself!).  Since we began the retirement of this app, I have personally found the Web Remote (http://remote.xfinity.com) to be a pretty helpful replacement - especially the voice functionality.  The ability to type a voice command rather than speak it out loud is actually pretty cool (helpful for when my wife is asleep on the couch next to me and I don't want to wake her up!).  I also set up some Custom buttons on the Web remote to easily switch to some of my most viewed channels and a shortcut to get right to the DVR recordings list.

I definitely understand that there are some features the Xfinity Remote App had that aren't exactly duplicated elsewhere, but I did want to provide a possible alternative to folks who are looking to easily browse a guide or content on their mobile device and then watch on TV without the need to switch applications.

We support "Casting" from the Xfinity Stream App to Chromecast and many Chromecast enabled TVs.  For customers with Apple iOS mobile phones a tablets, we also support use of AirPlay on Apple TV, Roku, LG and other devices.

With Casting, you can browse the Guide, On Demand, and DVR programming using the Xfinity Stream App much like you could with the Xfinity TV Remote app, and then tap the "Cast" icon to watch that content on your TV through a compatible device.

I know this isn't a solution that will work for all customers who are missing the Xfinity TV Remote app, but I wanted to put it out there in case it's helpful to anyone!  Here are some articles if you want to explore these options:

Xfinity Stream on Chromecast overview

Use Apple AirPlay software feature to watch Xfinity Stream on compatible smart TVs or devices

Does the Bandwidth cap still apply to use the Xfinity Stream app either casting or Apple TV?  If so we are paying for coax cable that is unusable and (indirectly) forcing customers to use their bandwith instead if they want a similar user experience.

@XfinityBecker

A ridiculous alternative. I don’t want to stream from my iPad, I want to select the channel and review recorded programs. What is the problem with keeping the app alive? I will be spend the weekend looking for Xfinity alternatives.

I think the “small but passionate” user base is larger than you think.

Absolutely

@XfinityBecker [Edited: Language] using a browser is not a replacement for an App that one worked and was functionally specific unlike a browser where the web page has to be loaded each time. [Edited: "Inflammatory"]

I agree with everyone!  Bring back the app.  WE pay exorbitant fees to Xfinity and they take away functionality.  I am off my contract with Xfinity and I think I'm going to YouTube TV if this isn't brought back by the end of this pay period.
