Disney+ App hangs during commercial breaks

Hey all,

Recently resubscribed to Disney+ and it works like well, [Edited: "Language"], via the Xfinity App. It tends to hang during the commercial breaks. Inevitably have to exit the App, restart and hope the commercial break completes. Anyone else have the same issue?

Having the issue with Disney+ freezing during commercials while accessing through Comcast/Xfinity. Is there a resolution besides paying more money?

Hello @user_pmatob and thank you for reaching out via our Xfinity Community forums!

It can definitely be frustrating to have that happen when you're watching something and having issues while streaming content!

There are several things you could try.  These are some of the most common fixes for Disney Plus freezing during the commercial breaks.

1) If you are watching Disney Plus on a Xfinity supplied piece of equipment, you can try going into Settings followed by App Settings, and then Data Usage - change the setting from Automatic to 'Moderate' or 'Save-Data'

2) Restart or Power Cycle the device - You would want to remove power for at least a full minute.

3) You can navigate to the Xfinity menu, select Settings, then Privacy, and Clear Cookies and Local Storage Data.

If you are not using one of our devices, there are similar settings for the app on third party devices.

Please give these a try and if your issue persists, let us know.  We're here to help address your concerns! 😀

Same issue. I see it’s been an issue for a long time. XFINITY FIX THIS!

Not an Xfinity issue. Disney n Hulu gotta fix their products. Netflix or Prime don’t have the problem.

Reddit says to go to Settings to lower the app data to low usage (low res, not 4k, etc.) to avoid the AB Ads testing buffering. It's Disney, not Xfinity :-(

Yeah, it’s a known issue with the Disney+ and Hulu apps. They’re just inferior products and or scamming to try n push subscribers to upgrade to remove ads. It’s happening on all TV or computer platforms. Netflix doesn’t have this issue. No ads either. Much better product. It’s a shame. If Disney and Hulu would fix their products, they’d have more subscribers, eh?

If I turn off cable box and just use the app through my smart tv I never have an issue.  Seems like there is a glitch somewhere specific to xfinity and the disney plus app.

I have just had a new TV box installed yesterday, and Disney Plus Freezes still. I am directly wired (So no wifi box) and I have it set to the lowest latency on Disney Plus. This is a long on-going problem, with it seems like no fix in sight by Xfinity! This is very frustrating considering how much I pay Xfinity for services!!

Greetings, @user_rjj2kt! I hope your week has been treating you well. Thanks so much for taking a moment out of your busy day to leave a post on our community forum. I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your new TV box, but you have definitely come to the right place for assistance.

Can you tell me a little more about what's happening? You mentioned Disney Plus was "freezing still." It sounds like you were having similar issues with your previous box, is that correct? Does the video freeze in place while the audio continues playing, or does everything stop together? Does it usually resume playing on its own, or do you need to interact with the box to get it going again? Have you ever seen any kind of error code or message on the screen when this happens?

Good evening @user_6zp91a, and thank you for letting us know that you are also experiencing this issue. May I ask what troubleshooting steps you have tried so far for example, have you tried deleting and reinstalling the app? May I also confirm the app is up-to-date?

Hello, @user_u34skk thank you for taking time to reach out over Xfinity Forums. I understand how frustrating it can be when Apps freeze on the X1 set-top box, and have found that clearing my stored data on the X1 equipment typically clears issues with Apps: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/x1-clear-cookies-and-local-data-storage

Please let me know if you've already attempted this, or any of the other troubleshooting steps mentioned on the post.

Having the same issue.  The Disney+ app used to work but comcast did something and broke it.  Don't have this issue on any other device, only the comcast boxes.  I don't even know why i bother paying for comcast when they can never fix their stuff.

Same problem here, streaming through the xfinity box. Usually it’ll play one ad and then completely freeze.  Incredibly frustrating.

Hello @user_68d61c and thanks for adding your concern to our Xfinity Community forums regarding the issue you're having.  Can you tell us what model of Xfinity box you're using and whether you've tried going into the settings in the App to reduce the data settings?  This issue has been found across multiple devices where Disney and Hulu are concerned, and not just Xfinity devices.  I myself had a similar issue on a non-Xfinity device myself, and changing the data settings helped.
