X1 Audio Sync Issues

Hello Comcast nerds! Looking for some help with audio issues I've been having for years.

On some HD channels my audio gets out of sync. The channels this happens on most often are TBS, TNT, MTV, TRU and Comedy. It does happen on others as well, but these are the ones that happen enough to be noticeable. When watching these channels, the audio will start to get ahead of the video. This is not a consistent delay. It may start by just a few milliseconds, but can get as wide as several seconds.

I can temporarily fix this by changing the auto format on the cable box/TV/ or sound bar. But it will go out of sync again within 30 minutes or faster.

This is only an issue on live, HD stream. DVR or Ondemand are fine. Applications on the X1 box are fine. TV built in Apps work fine. Xbox, Apple TV, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch all work fine. The audio issues only exist on live streams on certain channels.

I have rebooted the X1 box several times. I've replaced every cable. I have swapped out the box itself. Ive tried using my TV speakers and my sound bar. Nothing has fixed this.

It appears to happen when something between the breaks changes. I can see the status lights flash like it's detecting a change

My setup:

X1 4K DVR: XG1v4 (AX014AN) Firmare 106.1.1

TV: Vizio M50-D1 (4K UHD)

Sound Bar: Vizio 5.1 V2.6.2.1

X1 --> TV HDMI (input 2) --> Sound Bar Optical

Ive seen other posts where people have had a similar issue, but never found the answer.

I don't have it set to expert mode. I have audio set to stereo. I don't even see an option for expert mode.

Turn off expert mode in the audio settings. My problem was CBS and NBC.

If you are using the Comcast cable box, there is a setting in Audio Settings for Stereo, auto detect or dolby, and expert mode. The expert mode has to be changed to stereo. When I did this my audio sync issues went away. It never happened until I got my 4K television. Comcast technology just isn't up-to-date.

If this doesn't fix your issue you may have a different problem. Good luck!

Correct ansewer......I wonder if anyone is working on this issue at Xfinity/Comcast?  There are far too many people with the lip sync issue acrooss different types of equipment to point the issue as being an issue of the manufactures. It is a equipment/software issue with Xfinity. The question still remains, is anyone working on the problem?

Just bought a new Samsung QLED. Same issue as the rest. Audio is fine on every input except the X1 box unless it is set to stereo. Good thing I have a FireStick and/or a Smart TV to stream with since I won't be using the X1 apps.

Just hooked up my X1 today and am having the same lip synch issues but only when streaming on demand movies.

It gets progressively worse after each commercial break...which I think may be the problem. It seems when the video resumes it doesnt synch up exactly when it restarts by a milisecond and after the 5th or 6th commercial it is very noticeable. My $0.02.

Hi, user_a82b32. We know issues of is nature can be pretty frustrating, especially when it's newly installed equipment! We're here to help! There are a few variables that can contribute to an instance of this nature, which means we have a few questions for you in order to narrow down the cause. We understand it's only occurring when streaming on-demand content; additionally, is this only occurring on certain specific networks within on-demand? Do you use any soundbar or audio receiver at all?

I no longer work for Comcast

Just replaced my older x1 box to a new one to be able to have disney+ app on xfinity and now I have lip sync issues. Nothing else changed, same cables, same TV, same soundbar. The only thing that fixes it is to switch to stereo which is not an acceptable fix.

Same issue for awhile now with XG2 box.

Swapped for new XG2, didnt fix it.

no sound bar.

changing from auto dolby to stereo temporarily fixes it.

playing with vizio lip sync settings does nothing.

swapped hdmi. Swapped inputs.

nothing. Still goes out of sync.

this has to be a firmware issue.

fix this already. Go back to old firmware version until its fixed. Its been probably a year now.

Having the same sync issue with my box. Some channels are the audio and video are close to in-sync, while others are drastically off. Had an Xfinity flex box with no issues using the same setup. Called Xfinity support and they were almost no help. Suggested I get a new box, but based on these comments I don’t have a lot of confidence that will do anything.

@user_443a78 UPDATE: As you might have imagined the new box did not fix anything. I do not understand why some channels are fine and others have a large delay. And I know it is not my TV/sound bar setup because the XFINITY Flex streaming box worked just fine
