Why is LIVE TV delayed 45 seconds?

I know this problem is heavily complained about and have no real answer, but I wanted to make sure my issue was recorded when there is hopefully some sort of lawsuit.

Why is the live broadcast on my cable box 45 seconds behind the Xfinity Stream app? And 1 minute behind ESPN live score updates? Friends watching games via streaming services text me game updates before I see the plays occur on my cable box.

  • Xfinity is literally running a commercial during every football game this year about how their internet is so good that their streams aren't delayed
  • This occurs on almost every channel. Some are more delayed than others. Local channels are affected the most. Fox right now is 45 seconds behind the Stream app
  • Xfinity Box: XG1v4-A
  • For comparison, I am streaming the game at the same time on my Apple TV 4k via Xfinity Stream. I am 45 seconds behind.
  • I have changed out the HDMI cables, both HDMI 2.1 and HDMI 2.0 versions. I have tried different HDMI inputs on my TV
  • I have done multiple system refreshes
  • This has been happening for 2-3 years w/ 2 separate Xfinity boxes. It has recently gotten worse though.

Is there anything I can do locally until Xfinity maybe improves their connection between the channels and their customers?

user_xfiuvn, we never want our valued customers to feel this way and would be more than happy to look into the concerns you are experiencing with sports programming. Can you specify the specific game/event you were attempting to view?

It's more than sports..it's anything that is live.  And we are not talking about a 7 second delay

@user_40f2f8 thanks for your feedback. We are happy to help troubleshoot your connection. In the future should you have trouble please first start by creating your own public post that way we can provide you with the correct level of support. That being said since we are connected feel free to send us your full name and complete address to us in a Direct Message:

(Full credit to @BruceW for this excellent explanation!)

"Search for Xfinity Support" won't work. To send a "Direct Messaging" message to Xfinity Support:

 • Click "Sign In" if necessary

 • Click the "Direct Messaging" icon or https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging

 • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

 • The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

 •  - As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

 •  - An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

 • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

 • Press Enter to send it

Xfinity, why can’t you just post a response that you are aware of it and it’s getting fixed or it isn’t?? Any live event appears to have an additional delay then any regulated broadcast delay. People have over and over, on this foreum and thread, have noted the delay they experience watching live events watching TV with Xfinity vs people using another service other than Xfinity. In fact, many have stated that the delay does not if they are streaming on Xfinity but there is on the same service watching on TV.

Quit trying to disguise the issue with individual service issues. Step up and give us details on this Xfinity system issue. 4/21/2024, I am receiving texts from my brother in upstate NY updating goals of the Ranger game 7-10 seconds before they show up on my Xfinity TV. His cable company is Spectrum.

Hopefully you will actually address this issue Xfinity.

There are multiple threads and posts regarding this issue on this website, so your post is inaccurate and fails to take responsibility. This issue will be reported to the FCC due to Comcast/Xfinity’s failure to acknowledge, address and correct the issue that has been brought to the companies attention on multiple occasions.

I am AHEAD of my TV on my laptop when logged into ESPN with my Xfinity log in. How is that possible that a stream is faster than cable??? Xfinity refusing to answer means they must be streaming TV now and we aren't getting the cable service we are paying for

Business Channel CNBC is 43 seconds behind which allows hedge funds, institutional accounts, to gain an advantage of retail investors by trading on real-time information while the public is trading on 43 second delayed information. There should be a lawsuit b/c the FCC is probably not aware of this.  Essentially these larger accounts trading $100s of millions and billions can game the system by trading ahead of the retail investors who trade on delayed information leading to reap billions in profits off us.
