Volume and Mute not working

All of a sudden my volume and mute buttons no longer work on my remote. I e seen quite a few other people comment about this. What was the resolution?

The same thing is happening to me.  My mute button only works for the duration of the button press.  If I hold the button, the mute function works, but "Accessibility Shortcuts" pops up.  None of the directional buttons in it respond, so I just have to wait until it times out.
