TV Delay

Have there been any solutions provided for the live tv delay.  My friends try to chat with me while watching shows and they are always about a minute ahead of me.  It’s extremely annoying both with sports and other shows. Also, some shows have apps coordinated with the show, but it doesn’t work with xfinity because of the delay.  I have been an xfinity customer for a very long time and have multiple services, but if there isn’t a fix for this issue I will end up having to switch to another provider.

Hello @user_9ass5m thank you for taking to make this post and share your concerns with your TV connection. We would hate to see you go over this, and want to ensure that you can enjoy your services with us at all times! Can you please go into more detail on exactly what you are experiencing?

Are your audio and video not syncing up properly?

Is only your live TV impacted, or have you noticed any delays with DVR and/or On Demand?

Are all networks impacted or have you only noticed one/a few are behind?

If you have more than one TV box in the home, are all of them running slow or only one?

Do you see any delays when using the Xfinity Stream app?

Have you taken any troubleshooting steps on your own yet, if so, what have you tried?

Hi Katie

thanks for the follow-up.  Audio and video is in sync. This affects live TV only, of course.  I assume all live TV.  I can confirm CBS,ABC,NBC are delayed and it impacts all TV’s with xfinity boxes.  The delay seems to range from 30 seconds to 60 seconds +.  Streaming news directly on my phone via the internet seems to be fine.  Streaming via xfinity stream app -  I am not sure.   I have restarted my xfinity box and have noticed that others in this forum have reported the same issue.   Thanks.

@user_9ass5m - Thank you for clarifying! That really does help. Searching for known issues, I'm not locating anything on this particular instance of live TV being delayed (compared to the broadcasting of said channels). But, we can have you send us a Direct Message in order to troubleshoot your particular service/equipment, which may allow us to submit this feedback to our techs and/or engineering team. The more customers reporting similar issues, the better opportunity we have to address and resolve it! Could you please send our team a direct message to get started?

To send a direct message:

  • Ensure you are first signed in, then you will see a chat box icon at the top right of your page. Click that or follow this link here: https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging
  • From there, click the 'New Message' icon. In the 'To' field, type 'Xfinity Support'.
  • Type your message in the text area that appears at the bottom of the window and hit enter to send. An official employee, such as myself or whoever is first available, will respond.

To expedite your request, we ask that you please include your name and the service address alongside a detailed summary of your request/question. Thank you!

All my 5 boxes are 30 -45 second delayed on live TV-as I am sure  the hundreds still are that have reported this for the last 2  years.

I hope I am the post that tips the techs to fix this.

hi, just to clarify, it is not specifically “liveTV”.  It is anything broadcast on the stations I mentioned.
thanks

I too experience this delay--whether watching live or recording.  The recording just duplicates what is being transmitted.  I questioned this to Tom Karinshak, Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Experience Officer at Comcast back on March 17, 2023.  So this issue has been going on for quite some time.  It appears the broadcast transmission is a bit late--up to 1.5 minutes.   I also am missing the endings to some programs. Like at the very end when sometimes that's the most important part. If I try to find out "on demand" you can't fast forward. We pretty much record everything we watch. If I've recorded two or three things in a row, I watch them in order so I can catch the end of one at the beginning of the next. Or when I can, I just add 3 minutes to the ones ending at 11 p.m.  It would seem like this is a simple fix, but 7 months later and it's still doing the same thing.  Does Xfinity need to do a universal clock reset so that the timing is in sync, or is there something else going on?  I too would love to get this fixed.
