Setting series recordings on Live TV shows

This is new as far as I know. For example, I want to record the Pat Mcafee show on ESPN at 12-2 EST for the series ie every day at that time. The show stopped recording everyday as usual. All of a sudden the show is labeled as “Live” instead of “New” or “Repeat”. I can’t give a date when this happened but it’s within the last month. When I press Record, Record All epeisodes, the red circles do not show in the guide. When I look in the Recording Settings, there is no setting for a Live show in series mode. There are New, Repeat or New and Repeat Options to set the recording. No Live setting. It’s a pain having to go to each show and set it to record. Either I’m missing something or a change needs to be made to allow recording a Live show as a series.

schnappsy I can definitely understand why that would be frustrating, especially if you've been using a series recording for the show without any issues previously. Based on what you're describing, it sounds like the program metadata may now be identifying the show as "Live" rather than "New" or "Repeat," which can affect how the DVR presents the available recording options. At this time, there isn't a separate "Live" recording preference in the series recording settings, which is why you're only seeing New, Repeat, or New & Repeat as available choices.

Since the series recording indicator is no longer appearing in the guide after selecting "Record All Episodes," we'd like to investigate further to determine whether this is a guide data issue or an issue with how the DVR is processing the series recording request. Can you please let us know which TV Box model you're using and whether this behavior is occurring only with The Pat McAfee Show or with other live programs as well? That information will help us determine the next steps.

From what I can find, we have the ARRIS XG1V4 box.

Here’s the interesting thing, another show we record is Varney & CO which is a 3 hour show. For the longest time we had to set a recording for each hour individually as the guide grid showed it was 3 one hour shows. It also said LIVE. Now for the past week or so we thought we were recording just the first hour. When we looked at the guide grid today, it was shown as a 3 hour show and is recording just fine all 3 hours even tho it shows LIVE. It has done this for the past week. Strangest thing I’ve ever seen.

ESPN’s Get Up is a 2 hour show, shows in the guide grid as a 2 hour show and it is a

LIVE show and it records just fine for the 2 hours.

The Herd with Colin Cowherd also shows LIVE yet records all 3 hours no problem.

It’s looking more and more like a problem with the metadata for The Pat Mcafee show? In the section of Scheduled Recordings, the title of the show is:

The Pat McAfee Show: March 14, 2025. It will record if I set it manually, but not for a series recording. Maybe that’s the key?

That’s all I can think of now. I will add more to this post if I run across other LIVE shows we are having issues with in the recordings.

We appreciate the further details, @schnappsy!  Interesting that the other shows marked LIVE are recording just fine. What channel number are you recording the show on?

Have you checked your series priority list to see if the Pat McAfee shows as a series recording already? If it does, have you tried to fully delete the series recordings, then set it up fresh?
