Samsung TV left powered on after nightly box update

Caught on camera.  My samsung TV was left powered on after the nightly box update around 3:50am.  It has happened before.  Please fix.

@Anon5058 I want to make sure that I am on the same page. You are wanting your Samsung TV to shut off when our cable box updates in the morning, is that correct?

It was off to start with, when Xfinity did the update it turned the TV on  and left it on.   It has happened to me at least twice and to a neighbor.   The TV should be left in the same state it was in prior to the update.   My neighbors TV was turned on while he was on vacation,  it was left on for over a week.

I have a Samsung Smart Tv in my living room so I understand. It senses when a device comes online and will turn on along with it. You will need to either edit the functionality or edit settings t where the TV shuts off if nothing is broadcasted. I would double-check your Samsung TV manual.

There is no such setting on my Samsung Tv or in the manual.  The “turn on after guide update” has happened twice in the last month but not in the previous 4 years.  The issue is not wifi related as wifi is turned off on my Tv,  I am hardwired by gigabit ethernet directly to the router.

It is very clear on the camera, Tv is off, cable box flashes and Tv is turned on at end of update.

Does xfinity do a virus check on the guide update?

Does the xfinity software sense the Tv status and verify it is returned to that status after the update?

@Anon5058 This is definitley an odd situation and one I have not seen before. I would like to dig into this a bit more.

Please send a private message by clicking the direct messaging chat icon in the upper right corner of the page, click on the pen and paper icon, then enter “Xfinity Support” in the “To” section. Please include your name and address and I'll be happy to help.

  • Here's how to "send that direct message";
  • Click "Sign In" if necessary.

Click the "Direct Message" icon  in the upper right corner or https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon.

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there.

As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.

An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line.

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window.

    Press Enter to send it.

I no longer work for Comcast.

You would be much better off not allowing the tv remote to control cable box plus not allowing cable remote to control the tv.

Less problems just using cable remote for cable and tv remote for the tv.

I never have used Comcast for Internet. I have had DSL since Netscape days. I never have a problem using the tv's apps for You Tube watching 4K (in 2D or converted 3D) plus Real 3D. I also get 50+ channels over the air using an amplified antenna. 1080I channels are better quality than when converted to 720p by Comcast to watch on cable.

it is your TV that is reacting to a power on of the HDMI port of the set top box. go into the set top box settings menu, device settings, power preferences and toggle off the HDMI Device Control (HDMI-CEC). fixed?
