Recordings vanishing

Has anybody ever figured out why recording continue to disappear from your library. Just noticed all my Eagles super bowl stuff is now gone. I have literally lost hundreds of recordings thru the years. Recorded Woodstock at least 3 times and every time it has vanished. Love the X1 otherwise, but this really bugs me. Had the Super Bowl, the Mic'd up show and the post game live and it is all gone

@user_5b0fd4  I still have recordings from 2021 and 2022, 2023 and 2024 that haven't disappeared  so it can't be that. Just seems random to me

We hear how frustrating this is user_5b0fd4 losing recordings you planned to keep, especially big moments like the Super Bowl, is understandably upsetting. Here’s a quick explanation of why this can happen with Xfinity X1 Cloud DVR:

  • Cloud DVR recordings are kept for up to 1 year. After that, recordings automatically expire due to content and storage policies.
  • Save settings matter.
    • Save until space is needed means older recordings may be deleted first to make room for new ones.
    • Save for 1 year keeps recordings for a maximum of one year, even if storage isn’t full.
  • Storage limits still apply. The DVR holds about 150 hours of HD, and upcoming recordings can trigger deletions if space is expected to run low.
  • Recently Deleted is temporary. Once recordings pass that window, they can’t be recovered.

You can review all DVR storage rules and tips here:  https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/x1-dvr-storage-overview

Thank you for reaching out @skintime! I completely understand why this would be frustrating, especially with once in a lifetime content. This is related to X1 DVR recording retention rules. As a quick step you can try right now:

  •  Go to your Saved > Recordings section and check whether the content was marked as “Save for 1 Year” or left at the default setting.
  • Also, make sure you’re viewing All Recordings and not a filtered view (such as Recently Deleted or a specific series).

Previously, the X1 DVR had an option to “Save Until I Delete”. Recordings that were recorded with that option were grandfathered with that retention rule and can still remain available, while newer recordings follow the current retention settings.
For reference, we have an official overview of X1 DVR recording retention and save options here.
