Recording Morning Joe

Morning Joe went to four hours last week and ever since I can't record the whole show, just the last hour. Can you please fix this?

Thanks.

Hello @user_081312, thanks for reaching out for help on our forums! We understand wanting to make sure you record the entirety of the show. Here are the instructions to extend a recording: https://comca.st/3vj2yxJ.

Hope that helps!

I am having the same problem. Extending does nothing as the recording starts at 9, instead of 6.

I am having same problem! Xfinity is only recording one hour of Morning Joe since their change to four hours! There is no way to fix this! The instructions above do not fix it!  FIX THIS ASAP!!!

Xfinity advising to extend is not fixing this problem. FIX THIS! I will not continue with Xfinity if they cannot provide the four hours. I am also now only getting one hour. I was getting the whole three hours, but since the change to four hours, Xfinity changed the recording to one hour.

We are having the same issue.  It is not a matter of extending.  We have tried various approaches to remedy but to no avail.   Obviously something is wrong as it was not a problem before.  Please fix!

@user_ae6d25 In the Chicago area Guide, the first 3 hour segment is listed separate from the last hour.  Is that what you are seeing?

Yes. We are on the west coast.  When we tried to set the first three hour segment it appeared to also set the second one hour segment and will only record the second one.

@user_ae6d25 Very weird... I had it on in the 3rd hour and set a recording.  It recorded fine.

Keeps happening now.   At 1 AM (as I got up briefly), I set recording for the first three hours (3 AM our time to 6 AM) from listings in the guide to see if that would work.  Just woke up and it did not record and is only recording the 4th hour.  Bizarre and frustrating.  Need a fix.

@user_ae6d25 Not that it is a fix, but if you were up at 1am, you may try to record the channel itself on the guide- MSNBC

instead of Morning Joe until there is a solution.  I believe you can record up to 8 hours

I’m here in NorCal with xfinity. It’s happening here as well. So frustrating! You can’t contact anyone at xfinity who knows what to do. Hopefully more people will post here and it’ll make a difference!

Hi there, @user_f76beb, thank you for posting on our Xfinity Forums and sharing your experience with us! I know how frustrating it is when you are unable to record your favorite shows! Please rest assured, you have reached the right team for assistance. Is your recording set to record both shows or do you only have it set to record one?

Morning Joe new schedule

I’m on west coast and same problem. I’ve tried everything suggested and still cannot record full program. Scheduled recordings show shows recording 152 minutes, but it only records from original time slot beginning at 6:00 AM.

@2nsf2nyu Have you deleted the scheduled recording and then reset it up? Does it show the program as 1 long segment or broken into 2 time slots?

I live in Seattle and have the same problem.  I tried deleting and re-setting, but it still only records the last hour.  I did note one thing, however.  If I get up before 6:00 am and start the recording, you can get the first three hours.  But this is far from an ideal solution.  Has anyone let MSNBC/Morning Joe know that this is affecting the west coast?  I suspect that will get action, as Xfinity clearly cannot fix this.

Using Xfinity, speak into the remote and ask for “recordings.” It brings up a one hour and three hour recording for the show. I think this is the four hours. You will not get it asking for “Morning Joe.” “Recordings” is the only way I see it. I do wish Xfinity would fix it.

I started this chain, and just today finally found someone at Xfinity who solved it for me. And the answer is REALLY SIMPLE. Here's what you do... Click on Saved as you normally would. If you notice, it automatically highlights "For You" at the top. Use the arrow key to space over one to "Recordings" and voila, all four hours of Morning Joe is right there! It's still recording three hours + one hour, but at least now you can see the whole show.

Hope this helps! And thanks everyone. Glad to know there are so many Morning Joe fans out there!

When I follow your instructions, I still only find the fourth hour of Morning Joe.  When the DVR records the fourth hour, it records it over the first three hours.  This is no solution.  Xfinity must fix this!

Good morning! Thanks for posting this so we can offer some assistance. Can you confirm that on the guide the segment of Morning Joe is showing a 4-hour block or if it's broken into segments, please? Also, We would recommend deleting any existing scheduled recording and rescheduling it. When you do reschedule it, extend the start and stop times. Will you try this and let us know if it helps, please?

I am having this problem as well and it has happened since they switched to four hour format. I am recording only 62 minutes and it is the LAST 62 minutes. Extending start and stop times where exactly?  We all need help with this.

Changing the start and stop time of a recording onyour X1 box DVR is easy. Follow the link: https://comca.st/3azhhhn with easy instructions on how to do this set up.

This worked for me... I found someone at Xfinity who solved it for me. He was able to look into my recordings and see that both Morning Joes were being recorded. So the answer is REALLY SIMPLE... Click on Saved as you normally would. If you notice, it automatically highlights "For You" at the top. Use the arrow key to space over one to "Recordings" and voila, all four hours of Morning Joe is right there! It's still recording three hours + one hour, but at least now you can see the whole show.

If this doesn't work, call Xfinity.

Best...

I have an idea. Have had the same problem for months, have tried ALL options listed here and NOTHING works. So this is my theory but not a solution: Because Xfinity HAS BECOME (did not used to be) a rather clunky and antiquated system in terms of discerning what is a repeat show and what is a totally different show, and since Morning Joe is called Morning Joe, no matter when it comes on, xfinity does NOT recognize this and assumes it is one show ONLY; therefore, it (capriciously…?) picks it up as one show time which negates it’s need to pick it up for all four hours no matter when we, the lowly consumers, have selected our watch options. Now in the “olden” days when this never happened, xfinity did NOT have this bug in their system and so we never encountered this problem, or, technology has advanced, and xfinity has not kept in step.

I can get both shows by going to “recordings.” You can ask with the microphone button on the remote. If you have MJ set to record each day, you will get it.

I started this thread and wound up talking to several folks at Xfinity. No one knew why this was happening, but here's the solution... 1. Click on the Xfinity button on your remote. Click on Saved. At the top of that screen you'll see "For You" "Recordings" etc. Click over to Recordings. There you'll find a list of all of the shows you've recorded. Click on Morning Joe and you'll see both recordings (6-9 and 9-10) listed separately.  I realize this is fussy, but it's the only way I've been able to work around the problem.  Hope this helps!

If you have MJ set to record each day, use the microphone button on your remote and say “Recordings.” The two shows will come up and you can select them. I find asking for MJ does not work. You need to go to recordings. I hope this helps.

I also like to record Morning Joe. I agree that the Comcast "fixes" are not useful. Here is the issue: most of us who record Morning Joe watch it every day. We used to schedule it for auto-record, saving only one episode at a time. Unfortunately, with the program now broken into two segments, that means the first 3 hours (the part we watch) is replaced by the last hour. There are two unsatisfactory workarounds: (1) schedule every episode to record and save -- which means we have to go back and delete old recordings to save storage space, or (2) schedule individual records for the first 3 hours only, one program at a time -- which is a pain and subject to error.

The obvious workaround is to display Morning Joe as a 4-hour program. WHICH IS WHAT IT IS! Everybody (except Comcast?) knows that Morning Joe is a 4-hour program. and should be displayed correctly. That would fix the recording program.

And, seriously, is it that hard a fix???
