receiver now displays stb refsw and speakers don't work

In the middle of the night, I woke up to the cable setting on my receiver going from saying COMCAST to now saying stb refsw and no sound from the woofer portion of the speakers (the panel makes sound).

I have martin logan electrostatic speakers where the sub is built into the bottom portion of the speaker. I changed the power supply in the speaker thinking it was a surge but that did not fix the issue.

It seems like something came through the cable box that made a change in my receiver and at the same time my speakers stopped working. I don't know how to resolve this.

The concern is not "Home Security Devices And Equipment" help related. Topic moved here to the TV help section for assistance.

@amanda333 Hello! Thank you so much for reaching out to us on our Xfinity forums for help with the audio trouble. I'm sorry to read this is happening! The first few steps we will need to try are resetting the cable box, checking the audio settings on the cable box and reconnecting the audio equipment to the cable box. You can throw everything at it at once, but it might be easier and maybe save some steps by starting with resetting the cable box first. Do you have a X1 cable box?

Hi, thank you so much for the reply. I tried all the steps above prior to reaching out. I do have a x1 cable box.  In the meantime, I have learned that stb means set top box and ref means refresh. For some reason comcast sent something through the box that wiped out all the settings in my receiver. I thought it was an electrical issue, but it was cable that caused the issue. I have been able to tweak the settings in the receiver enough to hear some sound now and I have contacted yamaha to help fix the settings that comcast removed. What did comcast send through the box that caused this issue?

Of course, @amanda333! We are happy to help with any questions/concerns, anytime. There might have been a system update to the box itself, which typically will not cause any settings with your personal equipment, but it could have refreshed the entire setup causing the settings to clear out of the entire setup. Please share with us once you speak with Yamaha if you are able to update the settings to get better sound out of your speakers.
