Re: TV turns on randomly on its’ own
Question... *Updated 12/20/19.
If your TV turns on by itself...
We have a Samsung TV, connected to Xfinity X1 platform. It only stopped turning on, when we disconnected the HDMI cables from the Xfinity box to the TV.
[*We have a Ring doorbell, but we do NOT think it is causing our problem of the TV turning on. ] We do not have Alexa.
If anyone has a solution, please reply.
Thank you.

My Sony TV started turning on by itself in the middle of then night after I installed the Alexa app on it so I could say "Alexa show the front door on the TV" (with a ring doorbell). It turned out to be too slow to start up to be of much use anyway, and uninstalling the alexa app seems to have fixed the problem of the TV turning itself on. Oddly, alexa already had the ability to turn the TV on/of and set channels through its connection to google even without having the alexa app installed but didn't do it at random. Maybe something is going wrong with the doorbell motion sensing notification - but I'm not seeing activity on the phone app that matches the times the TV would have come on.

Proof? Installing the Amazon Alexa app on my Sony TV to view the camera was the only thing that changed in my case. And it seems like I'm not the only one. It was mentioned in the comments on the android tv app in the google play store. It's not really relevant to the X1 but still better than blaming xfinity for the problem.

the ring doorbell is like any other wifi device, it connects to a wireless router in your home. it does not know about nor communicate with your TV. any app that you connect to your TV connects to the internet to view a camera feed.

I agree that the problem is with the app, but if you didn't have the camera you wouldn't have followed the instructions to install and activate the app, so they aren't exactly unrelated.

Hello, peg4. Thanks for reaching out to us with your concerns about your TV. Given your description, we actually recommend reaching out to either Samsung about the TV or Ring about the camera/app as we do not support 3rd party products here.
