RE: Poor picture quality

Recently, Comcast notified me and told me to upgrade to the new X1 box; my old one was about 14 years old. They sent me the new box, I installed it and there was a humming coming from the box and the picture quality was definitely diminished from what came out of my old box. I went to the Xfinity store and they replaced the box. The humming has disappeared but the picture quality is still not as good as the old one was. It appears they have changed their circuitry and the newer design video-wise is not as good as the old design - a real disappointment.

Welcome to the Xfinity Forum and thank you for posting your question here. It sounds like you are using the default Xfinity television resolution. You can easily change the picture resolution on your Xfinity television equipment by following the steps below.

Learn how to manually configure your video display using the Xfinity X1 On-Screen Guide.

Video Display

To access Device Settings:

  1. Press the xfinity button on your remote.
  2. Use the left arrow or right arrow button to highlight Settings (the gear icon). Press OK.
Note: If your remote doesn't have an OK button, press the raised button in the center of the directional pad.
The Main Menu is displayed, with the Settings at the lower right.

  3. Use the down arrow button to highlight Device Settings. Press OK.
Settings screen. Device Settings is second from top.

  4. Use the down arrow button to highlight Video Display. Press OK.
Device Settings screen. Video Display is second from top.

  5. Highlight Video Output Resolution. Press OK.
  6. Use the up arrow or down arrow button to pick your desired resolution. Press OK.
Video Output Resolution screen with available resolutions.

  7. Zoom can be toggled between Full and None.
Zoom option, currently set to Full, is at the bottom of screen.

  8. When done, press Exit.

Please let us know if you continue to experience picture quality issues or if you have any other questions.
