Older person cannot upgrade

My mother is 95 and half blind, she can use the remote that is with the old cable box.  If I put the upgrade on it will only confuse her, she is too old to learn new things much less see them to use them.  She is content to watch (listen to )her QVC and Hallmark, I am not putting the upgrade on and causing her distress.

I don't know if this would help, but the upgraded box has a setting to turn on a narrator ("Voice Guidance" in the settings) which will say aloud the choices on the screen.

To change channels she would just need to hold the voice button and say "Hallmark" or "QVC".

I do appreciate the difficulties with change as we all get older!

She is familiar with the old remote. I will not upgrade and inconvenience her. There comes a time when you do NOT CHANGE things for a 95 year old person.

Hello there, thank you for taking the time to reach out and express your concerns. I am sorry to hear recent changes may cause an inconvenience with your mother enjoying her favorite shows, and I am happy to help in any way I can. Are you an authorized user on her account giving you access into the account, so we can look into this issue for you?

I no longer work for Comcast.

The old remote should still work. The X1's still support IR, and the command codes are the same except for some really ancient boxes that were replaced when Comcast updated to MPEG4 compression. I even have one of the old silver remotes with the gray/white/red buttons, and it works with an XG1v4.

@andyross , I would like to use my old silver remote with the gray/white/red buttons.  Were steps required to "set-up" the old remote or did it work "out of the box"?

@Bulkington Turns out the new remote and cable box set up was easy.  For the remote, once the new box is set up you just follow the on screen prompts to set it up. You even are give the choice to have it talk to you (just press yes or no) and for using it, well I am still working on that, but to get to the channels my mom watches, just press the botton that has the microphone on it (it is highlighted in blue) (the words 'listening' appear on the upper left of the TV screen) say 'QVC' and it appears on the TV. Or just say 'Hallmark' and it appears on the screen.  You can also set your favorites, so you have a listing of the channels you usually watch (did this for my TV) instead of having to go through all of the channel listings. It is not called ''My Favorites' like it used to be, and to be honest right now I would have to look around for it - I know I created it but just not familiar with where it is located. The new remote is different, but easy to work.
