Is the Xfinity 4K experience just not that great, or do I have a problem?
Just got a Sony 800H 65”. Love this tv. When I’m streaming any 4K internet content like Netflix, HBO Max, etc. it looks amazing!
But live tv channels are somewhat underwhelming. It’s not completely horrible, but it’s noticeable compared to the streaming apps I mentioned.
I’m running the XGv41 or whatever it’s called at it’s highest resolution. I’ve also upgraded my HDMI cable to a Monster 21Gbps. It see the picture drop quality intermittently. So I’m wondering if it’s just a Comcast thing with channels not broadcasting in real 4K? Or is something else going on?

With broadcast channels only a few live Football games have been in 4K mainly Fox games. Not sure if you are talking about them or not. If you say 4k into the voice control it will show what 4k content is available which is limited to mostly some movies.

Yea networks don't have general 4k broadcast yet. Just like it took a while for them to catch up to HD years ago even when the HD sets were out. I watched part of wonder women84 (dumb movie) but it looked good in 4k.

Comcast barely has HD as they have most HD channels at 720P. If HD was shown at a higher resolution (1080P) and bitrate then you would be quite impressed but their goal is not picture quality. The picture gets even worse if you have a 4K TV vs. older TV that is native 720P or 1080i.

You'll have to pay attention to what the quality of that particular channel is. I have DirecTV and I'm transitioning to ComcasTV. I know even with DirecTV's HD service I have a lot of SD channels. Those do look quite a bit less quality than the 1080 HD channels. I'd imagine SD upscaled to 4K would look horrid.
It is hard to believe that some networks still transmit in SD. I would have thought 1080, or at least 720, would be norm by now. Bandwidth is money. So if they can get away with lower bandwidth for lower money, they'll do it. What we need is regulations on the quality of transmission.
