DVR upgrade needed - want to save shows to external device

Is there a way to save/download programs recorded on an XC1-A DVR to an external source, like a laptop or flash drive? I need to upgrade the DVR and do not want to lose some programs that were recorded several years ago. These programs do not appear to be saved in the cloud.

Thanks!

Hello There @DJWnAJK! Thanks so much for reaching out to us today via our Community Forums!  To get to the heart of your question- no, there is not a way to download from the hard drive, except if done by a technician between the old and new cable boxes. A direct transfer would give you the best chance to retain those older recordings, but this is not guaranteed.

If you'd like to set up an appointment to have us come out and work that for you, please use the instructions below to send us a peer-to-peer message.

To send a "Peer to peer" ("Private") message:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

• Click the "Peer to peer chat" icon

• Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

• Type "Xfinity Support" in the "To:" line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list which appears. The "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

• Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

• Press Enter to send it

@XfinityAlfonso Thank you so much for the response, Alfonso!

What would the charge be for a technician to come out to upgrade our DVR unit and transfer our recordings? There aren't many of them; just some older ones that we'd prefer to save it possible.

Thanks again!

I'll be happy to help you with this @DJWnAJK ! Could you please send our team a direct message with your full name and full address?

  • Click "Sign In" if necessary

  • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

  • The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

  • - As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

  • - An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

  • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

  • Press Enter to send it

I no longer work for Comcast.

you can save by using the antenna out (cable) to a VCR (tape) or a DVD recorder. will be in SD format not HD.

For years, Comcast has been saying that it is not possible to transfer recordings from one DVR to another. Has something changed? Or were you talking about cloud recordings?
