dvr no longer buffers during watching a recording plus dvr stops buffering after a few hours

Good afternoon.

I am experiencing the following since Dec 2025


When I wake up, or go away for more than a few hours, I no longer can rewind 60 minutes like I used to be able to do.  Sometimes there is a screen saver.  I have power saver disabled and messed around with CEC.

I also can no longer rewind live TV after completing watching VOD or DVR recording.  I could leave my TV on a specific channel, watch a DVR recording, then come back and be able to rewind up to 60 minutes.  This no longer works.

Both of these worked until Dec 2025.

I have replaced the DVR and that did not help.

Has there been a change on the X1 platform to disable these really good capabilities?

Hey @Sunny76. Thank you for visiting our official Xfinity Forums Community support page. From the description, it sounds like the playback feature is working as intended. After periods of inactivity, the buffer is removed to extend the life of the writing media. 


Whenever the channels is changed or different media is being played )such as an app, OnDemand, game, or more) the buffer is reset and starts again once on a designated live linear channel. As this is the way the feature was intended, swapping the DVR would not resolve the issue. I've noticed the same issue. If this is the way it is suppose to work as stated below, than this is a change. It worked as you described in the past. I only noticed the change in the last few weeks.

This is happening to me now as well after a Comcast technician changed my set top box to fix one month of pixelation on my television around 3/6/26. I had a larger set top box attached by coax. Now I have an 4k wireless XI6a box.  I used to be able to rewind up to an hour as long as I didn’t change the channel. It didn’t matter if I watched a recorded show or Netflix etc. I could always go back to live tv and rewind for an hour. I have now called Comcast twice with little resolution. I am on hold now coming up on 2 hours on the phone with a representative. 

I am seriously considering changing companies after this.

Can this be fixed? If so, where in the settings do I do this?
