Can’t skip nightly tv update

I have the same issue as described in a closed thread. I get an onscreen message notifying me it’s time for the nightly update, but that I can skip it. When I select that option, however, the tv continues for several minutes, then freezes. The only way to unfreeze it is to unplug the cable box and let it reboot and go through its cycle. This is as disruptive as just letting the update download and waiting several minutes for a reboot, ie, I’m not able to skip the process.

The suggested solution in the closed thread was to do the unplugging the night before, or earlier in the day, before the scheduled time. If that worked then the next night I shouldn’t have a problem with skipping the following night. But it happens every night that I want to skip.

Hello, @RP15! Thanks for posting on our Community Forums to let us know about your situation. It's possible the update is required. Have you tried letting the upgrade complete to see if that helps?

Thanks, I normally allow the automatic update to occur daily, so, for example, on Wednesday if I want to manually skip, the update is no more than one day old, i.e., Tuesday's update.

@RP15 We do recommend allowing your box to update daily as it does ensure your box is at peak performance. You can also change the time of the update if that helps?

Thanks, but I would like the option to skip an update on occasion. Whoever designed the system obviously intended users to have that.

Thanks for reaching back out to us. The system is designed to ensure that you are running at optimal performance. The updates allow for this to occur so it is important that you allow the update. You are only able to skip 2 times in a row and it will then require the update. Is this occurring every single update? Have you attempted to reschedule the update to a more convenient time for you?

I no longer work for Comcast.

Just some feedback...For me anyway, it would be more convenient if there were one hour windows instead of two.

to Michelle,

Yes, it happens EVERY time I try to skip. I NEVER skip two days in a row. The time frame is generally convenient (middle of the night) but every once in a while I am watching TV at that time (e.g., Australian Open tennis) and don't want to interrupt for 5-10 minutes, yet I can't skip. If Xfinity doesn't want to provide a skip option, why not remove that button from the screen? Thanks.
