I can't delete premium channels that I no longer subscribe to from favorites in the guide or from the saved menu. it only offers subscribe or record, delete is not offered as an option. The delete option is offered on all other channels

Hello wolverine19871 how long has this issue been affecting you? What self- troubleshooting steps have you already taken? And is this on the Stream App and on the cable boxes?

@XfinityWilliam your question is confusing to a layman.  I’m using the xfinity remote control that I use for all functions on my xfinity network.  The guide is displayed on my TV.  When I go to the guide, clicking on the guide button on the remote and click guide a second time, I can select my guide view.  I select the view that has a star beneath reads Favorites. When I select that it goes back to the guide which reads on top Guide/Favorite Channels.  All the channels which I selected as a favorite is displayed with a “*” on the left side of the channel column.  So, after explaining this in great detail, when I want to add a channel to favorites, I go to the guide and select free to me, go to a channel I want to tag as a favorite, go to the channel column and click.  The bottom of the screen will have options of Watch - Record - Favorite - Default Channel - Channel Info.  If I want to add it to my favorite I select that with my xfinity remote.  To take that favorite off would go to a channel I had previously tagged with an asterisk “*” indicating it’s a favorite, click in the channel column and below selections will come up as follows: Watch - Record - Remove Favorite - Default Channel - Channel Info.  Folllowing me so far?   The issue is I tagged a premium channel as favorite and since I unsubscribed.  Now I am unable to take asterisk (favorite indicator) off.  The only options I get when I go to that channel in the channel column, click okay are Subscribe - Record - Channel Info.  No “Remove Favorite.” It stays on my Guide/Favorite Channels retaining the asterisk “*”.

When I on the favorites menu and have an asterisk next to certain channels I can remove the favorite asterisk on regular channels but when I try to remove from my premium unsubscribed channel, I only get Subscribe - Record - Channel Info.  No “Remove Favorite.” It stays on my Guide/Favorite Channels retaining the asterisk “*”.

Hello kenkaz, thank you for reaching out via our Xfinity Communtiy Forum for help with removing channels from your favorites list.

Here are the step to delete those channels that you no longer subscribe to from favorites in the guide or from the saved menu:
1. Select "My Subscription" from the information bar.
2. Choose "Unsubscribe" to cancel the subscription.
3. You will receive a confirmation message indicating that you have successfully unsubscribed from the channel. Please note that the delete option is not available for premium channels, but you can unsubscribe to remove them from your favorites or saved menu.

Please let us know if you have any other questions on this process.

@XfinityChristy i seem to have a problem communicating the fact that I no longer have a subscription to Stars or Cinemax; therefore the Unsubscribe option or the Remove Favorite option is not offered in any menu I can access, the only options are subscribe or record.

I do think that a work-around to this problem (other than a "bug fix" in the actual program running on the X1) would be to have a support representative call me. I do have phone service from Comcast, so you do have my number. The rep or support tech could turn on Stars and Cinemax. This should then give me the option to Remove Favorite; (I do have this option on HBO and Showtime). While on the support call I can remove the channels from Favorites and the support/customer service tech could then remove access to Stars and Cinemax. I do believe that this should solve my problem and put a smile on my face.

Do you think that this could be a solution to my problem, and if so, can you arrange this for me?

kenkaz You could call in to have that done if you wish, but we can also get this completed for you from here. If you like to try it, we are always happy to assist.

Can you send us a direct message with your full name, name of account holder (if different), and service address please?

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon (speech bubble)

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

- As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

- An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

Press Enter to send it

jodaschuetz the reason this is showing in this manner is because you're no longer subscribed to the premium content. What may work is temporarily re-subscribing, removing the channel from favorites, and then unsubscribing once more.

I unsubscribed MGM+ but before I unsubscribed, I had set it on my Favorites on the xfinity guide.  Now when I try to remove it from favorites, it doesn’t give me the option.  The only options I get is to Subscribe   Record   Channel Info.  Other channels that I can watch the options are  Watch   Record   Remove Favorite   Default Channel   Channel Info.  How do I remove the “*” from the MGM+ channels since I can’t watch them without resubscribing?

27 Messages

@XfinityShawn I get a screen which reads “Subscribe     Record      Channel Info” when I attempt to take the favorite “*” off by trying to remove favorite.

Hello, user_0a4zbw and thread! If you go to the channel menu by clicking on the channel on the left side of the guide (where add/remove Favorites should be) and select Channel Info, does the option to remove the favorite show up from that screen? I see both ways to remove it when I check my X1 box.

I am also having the same exact problem.  We should be able to remove from Favorites list a formerly Favorite channel to which we're no longer subscribed.  Xfinity is a billion dollar technology company.  It's absurd that the box guide application does not give us this option.  Can Xfinity please get this situation corrected for all of us.

The obvious root cause of this issue is that [Edited: "Inflammatory"]! Useless, entirely void of any value. I just spent 87 minutes on the phone with a support desk person who was either deaf and mute or intentionally proposing the issue was because of a loose cable or I needed to get a new box. The cost continues to soar, and the service is non-existent. [Edited: "Inflammatory"].

same here.  i subscribed to the paramount+ showtime channel for a couple of months and added them as favorites on my tv.  I recently cancelled them but likewise unable to now remove them as favorites.  (i’ve done the system refresh thing twice to no avail)

1 Message

@Xfinity yes we are all still having this issue.  This is a failure/bug in the system and there is not anything we as customers can do to correct the underlying issue.  When you unsubcribe from a channel there is no way to remove it from the favorites list through the cable box menus or guide.

There are currently two possible work arounds that I am aware of, and I'm currently testing.

1. is to use the xfinity remote app.  On there you can select/deselect favorites by using the star next to the channel name/number.

2. Is to use a browser to log into the xfinity stream online and use the live TV option and there you can select/deselect favorites using the star next to the name/number of the channel.

The only issue with the above work arounds is that it seems like you need to wait for the cable box to do it's nightly update.

Which I'm currently waiting on to see if this removes the channels from the favorites list on it.  I think it should as the app and stream versions of the favorites list updated when favorites were changed on one of them.

inexplicably, the eight different Paramount+/Showtime that I am unable to UNfavorite on my TV, no longer even appear anywhere, even when selecting ALL channels, when streaming on my chrome book (via browser), or streaming via iphone app…But they surely are staring at me right in the eye in my Favorite Channels View guide on my television.  No option available to remove them on the TV.

Ironically, I ultimately canceled the Paramount+/Showtime channels because

its movies would buffer like crazy…but only on the tv, not when watching on another device.   This is yet another problem that

many others have complained about on the Forum… that Paramount+ buffers crazily

when trying to watch on a television.

(i’ve got gigabit internet and a robust

router & modem…it’s not a local issue, it’s on the xfinity side

@mbieganski3 You are correct about Paramount+ being terrible on the Xfinity cable box. I have  ROKU TV and use the app on the TV to watch Paramount+ with no buffer issues. It is amazing that; even though the signal is coming through the same wire; bypassing the cable box and going straight to WiFi produces a far superior signal. This, along with the inability to remove previously unsubscribed channels from the favorite guide, have been well documented issues and Comcast support seem oblivious to the complaints of many customers who meticulously describe their problems. Instead of making the problems go away; it seems that Comcast is hoping that their customers grow tired of complaining; and hope that the complaints go away

@XfinityVictor NO - we were not able to remove the favorites we are no longer subscribed to. Can't you read? This has been stated at least a dozen times above. Can we please get ONE SINGLE SENSIBLE ANSWER in this thread? Even if the only option is for one single rep to have the decency to admit that it's Comcast's problem, not ours, and that nothing can be done about it and you're not interested in having it fixed for us????

@XfinityVictor The only way I was able to resolve my problem was to resubscribe to the premium channels that I couldn't delete; wait a few hours; remove those channels from my favorites; then unsubscribe from those premium channels. I am now retired from working over 20 years in information technology (network admin and help desk) and I am completely astonished by the way the way the phone reps and the people representing Comcast on this forum can't seem to understand what end users are explaining; in plain English! Usually it was the end users that have comprehension problems; not the people that are hired to help them! I apologize for the rant, but if someone would go back and read this entire thread, along with all the other ones involving this problem, you could easily see that if an end user unsubscribes from a premium channel before removing that channel from their favorites, they have no option available to them to remove that channel from their favorites. How many people have to clearly state that their only option listed is Subscribe or Record

thekeel Thanks for your comments. I'm sorry for the delay in resolution. I know it can be frustrating when we don't have a fix for a specific issue in place. But I saw another user mentioned two different workarounds.

1. is to use the xfinity remote app. On there you can select/deselect favorites by using the star next to the channel name/number.

2. Is to use a browser to log into the xfinity stream online and use the live TV option and there you can select/deselect favorites using the star next to the name/number of the channel.

see my reply i just posted (sorry, not sure who i specifically replied to), but the fix suggested by someone earlier of using the xfinity REMOTE app finally resolved this for me.    I downloaded it this morning, not really to use as a remote, but exclusively to fix this Favorite bug.    On the Remote app,

i un-starred the half dozen paramount+/showtime channels that refused to remove from my Favorites menu even though i cancelled them and

when i then checked the Favorites on my

tv menu finally they were gone

27 Messages

@mbieganski3 Thank you.  I did the same.  I have an Apple iPad and went to the App Store, searched on Xfinity Remote App, downloaded it, logged in and was able to tap on the darkened stars on the channels that were a problem and it worked!  When I went back to my TV Favorites menu the culprits were gone!  I appreciate your post!

Yes, this worked! But in the chat with Xfinity, the agent didn't mention that and couldn't help. I agree with Toxteth below. I must have read a dozen discussion boards about this issue before finding this answer on doing it in the phone app. More than that, why the heck doesn't Comcast make it doable in your TV??????????????

After 2 months of trying to delete Showtime, including lengthy chats with support agents who said they would do it, using the remote app did the trick.  Why isn't that information more readily available to the support people who are supposed to know how to do things?

Just updated my channel lineup and have the same [Edited: Language] problem.  Ended subscription to Max  and Showtime but CANNOT remove them as ‘favorites’ on my preferred guide view.  FIX THIS XFINITY!!!!?!#?!.  So much wasted time fooling around with what should be a straightforward “Remove from favorites” option. LIKE ALL OTHER CHANNELS.

The best solution seems to be a subscription to another platform such as YouTube tv.

@user_vkgiuv I had the same frustrations. Another user in this community said that you can remove the channels from your TV by using the Xfinity app on your smartphone. Delete the unwanted favorite channels using the app and they'll disappear as favorites on your TV. I did this and it worked - no thanks to Comcast or their reps, who doesn't seem to know anything about it. And no thanks to their designers either who make such faulty, inconsistent, un-user-friendly software.
