Cable box won’t shut off

I have a Bose soundbar. I have to use the optical cord. The box is the voice one with Dvr.  When I push the power button. It turns off the tv but it doesn’t shut the cable box off so the show that was playing continues to play. The only way to stop this is to not use the cable boxes optical port. Since it doesn’t shut off there is always sound coming from the Bose soundbar.
how can I fix this?

@kindones

Thank you for posting your television questions here in our Xfinity Forum. If you programmed your remote to control your TV, the All Power button will turn your TV on and off. Your TV Box must always be powered on to perform regular functions (like software updates and DVR recordings).

To turn off the TV Box, you must either:

  • Press the Power button on the front panel of the box,
  • Configure the TV Box to go into Power Saver automatically or
  • Simply leave the TV Box on while turning off the TV.

For additional information about this "always on" function, please see here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/x1-remote-all-power-button-does-not-turn-set-top-box-on-or-off

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

@XfinityJessie the X1 dvr does not have a power button on it. If the box won’t respond to the remote, the only option is to pull the plug. The box gets very hot if left on and when left on, the box doesn’t respond to the remote at all.

Found power saver option but disappointed that the cable boxes don't power off like the old units....what were the engineers thinking Not!
