Cable box turning off

When I hit the power button on my Xfinity remote it used to just turn off the TV, but now it also turns off the cable box.

Also, if I use the remote for my TV and hit the power button, the cable box turns off.

There is currently no way I can turn off the TV without also turning off the cable box.

@user_5a4475 Hello Good Morning, thank you for reaching out to us through our Xfinity Forums Community, and thank you for your patience while awaiting our response. I understand you are having an issue with your remote and what device it turns off. To clarify are you looking to have only your TV turn off with the remote? Our cable boxes typically stay on all the time, this way we can send updates for the guide, firmware updates, etc. Let us know, we will do all we can to help you.

@XfinityBrianW   Yes I would like to only turn off the TV, but the power off button on the remote turns off both the TV and the cable box.  This is relatively new behavior, it used to only turn off the TV.  And if I use my TV remote, if I turn off the power the cable box also turns off.  It seems that somehow the cable box is confused and when the signal comes through to turn off the TV, it thinks that signal is turning off the cable box.

@user_5a4475 Does this issue happen on one TV and box or do you have same issue on other TV/boxes? Can you share which remote/remotes you have? I have a link here to help know the different remotes. https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/remote-controls.

@XfinityBrianW   I only have one TV/cable box.  I have the XR11 Xfinity Voice Remote.  But the problem is not with the remote because if I use my TV remote, it also turns off my cable box.

@user_5a4475 Will the Xfinity remote turn on the X1 box and your tv at the same time?

Yes it does so the Xfinity remote works exactly like my Samsung remote for my TV

@user_5a4475 Just wondering, are you able to use the Samsung remote to turn off the Samsung TV, without it affecting the Xfinity cable box?

I no longer work for Comcast.

No when I use my Samsung remote to turn off the TV, the Xfinity cable box also goes off.

Please refer to this page and see if CEC is enabled on your cable box.  If it is, turn it off.  You may want to disable Power Savings as well.

CEC was enabled on my cable box, I turned it off.  I didn't see a Power Savings setting.

If you disable CEC, then your cable box and tv won’t be able to turn each other on or off.  That is what CEC does…allows the devices to communicate so that they can turn each other on or off.  Re-enable it.  You might want to do a system refresh on the cable box.

That solved the problem, now when I turn off the TV the cable box stays on.
