Apple TV app looping me back to activation screen repeatedly

Unlike all the other apps I access through Xfinity, the Apple TV app doesn't activate properly on my TV. I follow all the steps to sign into my Apple TV account, and if I go to my PC, I can see that Apple knows my TV by "name" and model. But every time I enter the code provided successfully via my cell or PC and wait for the TV screen to "refresh," I'm told to enter my Apple password. And when I click the "Sign In" icon via my remote...it sends me BACK to the activation screen. So I can't enter my password. And I've started over and over and over and over again...entering countless codes...and I still can't watch Apple TV via Xfinity. What's going on? How do I fix this?

Also experiencing the "login loop" here. almost an hour on the phone with Xfinity support and they are sending out a tech later today (tomorrow from when the call ended).

The problem is with the Xfinity app's authentication routine, and NOT with Apple's service. I tried to explain this to both the tier 1 and tier 2 support techs (which both insisted on resetting the TV box, despite is being newly sent out). so...now waiting on a tech to come out with who knows how many boxes to finally get one to work (I asked the tier 2 support person to ensure that a box be sent out that was "confirmed working" with appletv, but no such promise was made.

tier 2 support also assured me that no known issues existed with the appleTV app; this thread disproves that, as there have been MANY issues with the appleTV AP on comcast units, and it is a complete shame that their support doesn't own up to the problem.

Update: Comcast tech just left after confirming that the issue was indeed with the Comcast Apple TV+ app. no change in hardware would fix the issue. when he was here I even tried to sign in on an alternative apple account and the same thing happened.

we also learned that our Comcast device supports HD and DVR, but for some reason both of those functions have been turned off on the account level, which is not part of the plan we are paying for.

I have been using it for several weeks. Suddenly today it’s stuck in the loop. Tried all the things mentioned. Nothing works.

SOLVED - after many weeks trying the QR code login, resetting app, I found the solution above.

Login to you Apple ID on your iPad, iPhone, PC or Mac. In your Apple ID you will see a list of devices connected to you Apple ID. Select the Comcast device (left facing arrow) and select “Remove From Account”.  Remove all Comcast devices from your account (I had 12 different devices).

Now go back to Xfinity TV box and go to Apple TV app. Try logging in again using QR code and viola!! I was able to login to my main DVR and remote set top box. Everything works great.

Try it! Hopefully that is the official “fix”.

Hope this helps for everyone.

@toddmcullen This is worthless as most of us having an issue can't sign in on the Comcast device. Hence, it does not appear on the list of devices. SO months later, this is SYILL NOT FIXED.

@user_451dcb you need to login to your iPhone, iPad or Mac/PC Apple ID account on one of those devices, not your Comcast account. Once you remove/delete the Comcast devices from you Apple ID, you should be able to login to tie Apple TV app on X1. Try this.

Ran into the same issue. My wife was trying to sign in to her account… endless loop. I tried every troubleshooting method I could think of and nothing worked. The way I understand things (which could be flawed) Apple had something going on that wasn’t compatible with Xfinity, but something I could maybe adjust. I noticed that we have a “family share plan” with apple and that my account was the head account. I used my device to sign in with my Apple ID using the QR code and it worked. I have no idea if that’s the issue. With so many people complaining about it, it’s likely not. But if one Apple ID can’t sign in and another can, my bet is on Apple needing to fix something on their end. (Or maybe all these devices need to become compatible with all the family sharing plans…) Who knows… but I won’t be coming back to this thread and I hope those of you who read this never have this issue again.

Good luck.

Welcome to our community forum, @user_52be82! I'm sorry to hear you're having issues signing into the Apple TV app. What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far? Are you able to try signing into the app on an iPhone then trying again? This seems to be a workaround.

Welp, I'm back in the loop. Today, Apple TV forgot I had a subscription and asked me if I wanted to do a Free Trial. I said, "Absolutely not," went to try to sign in...and it's looping around again the way it was before. the QR code did NOT work this time, but then it didn't work the first time, either. So am I going to have to wait another week or two before it works again or...will it ever work again?

I am having this same issue. I can successfully log in directly via my TV app. My subscription to Apple TV + was recently auto-renewed so I wonder if that is the cause. Can anyone from Xfinity fix this?

@KCT93 Hello, and thank you for letting us know you are also having the issue.

Have you tried these steps outlined in this thread?:

Here is an interim solution provided by Apple that should help to resolve the issue. Please follow the directions below:

  1. Log in to Apple TV on macOS, IOS
  2. Windows users can log into Apple TV at https://comca.st/3J8zgbX
  3. A Terms and Conditions prompt will display. To proceed, accept the Terms and Conditions.
  4. Log in from your Xfinity X1 or Flex device

I too am having the same looping issue when accessing Apple TV+ from my Xfinity box. I have tried the QR code countless times as well as the URL. Goes back to start a free trial page or login page everytime.

I am also able to log in to Apple TV+ from my laptop, but not my Xfinity box.

Frustrating

@user_cc1507  I'm sorry to hear of the looping issue with Apple + on the box, we're happy to help.   Can I have you go to the Settings on the box, then Privacy . Stored data and clear it? It will log you out of other apps so you'll need to log back in again, and try to sign into the Apple+ app again, please.

I’m having the exact same problem. Tried looping through using the QR code as suggested in some of the other comments here, and after 6 times it’s still not working. This is ridiculous. Xfinity should be ashamed that they have not been able to resolve this after so long.

The app worked fine on my older Samsung earlier today. Lately though, the app looks corrupted.

Screen says "ATVE.SignInFlowWeb.ExpiredToken.Header.TV. Next line: ATVE.SignInFlowWeb.ExppiredToken.Message.TV. Two buttons: ATVE.Alert.Button.SignIn and ATVE.Alert Button.Cancel.

Been in the loop all afternoon--codes & QR don't work. I'm a paid subscriber, but I only have access to the premieres and the free trial.

Cmon, you guys. Should be something the brains at Xfinity and Apple can fix. Please.
