4k uhd is terrible
4k uhd MLB games are terrible on the comcast xfinity set top box. When i watch the same game on an apple tv 4k or a firestick 4k the colors are much more vibrant and video quality is impeccable. Why is comcast xfinity 4k broadcast so bad?!?!
the 2022 world cup is next month and i have no idea how I’m going to justify paying what i pay for 4k box when you cant even show a slow moving baseball game with vibrant colors and 60fps.
i know it’s not only me. There are plenty of other posts on this forum along with all of my friends in group chats confirming how washed out the colors are on comcast xfinity 4k.

is that an app you are watching? a linear (numbered) channel? why do you believe the broadcast on xfinity is in 4k?

The video quality for World Cup matches is terrible: the faces are blurry, the players are surrounded by compression artifacts, and the grass looks like a smudge. This is supposed to be HD but it is not.

Just to clear one problem here. If you are watching any linear cable channel the best signal from Comcast is 720p.
As for 4K programing, you get what you pay for. Cheaper brands and models do not have the circuity needed to adjust all 4k signals, or lower properly. Your current television may be your problem. Check the tv manual for adjusting tv.

does comcast actually broadcast the content in 4K--having a 4K TV and 4K cable box doesn't guarantee the programming is in 4K. I have the NBA league pass and I'm fairly certain it's not 4K--I stream from the NBA app as well on my tv and the picture quality is much better. I suspect comcast is just providing the games in HD, but not 4K. Comcast's 4K support page notes only certain live events are 4K (e.g. only a few fox college football games in october were 4K--other sporting events weren't).

@user_Moe I had the same issue with 4K on the various streaming apps available in X1 interface and live 4K sporting events. Everything was washed out/dull. It was obvious that the issue was that the HDR was not getting triggered on the multiple 4K HDR TVs I have in use. This was verified by looking at each TV menu for adjusting picture and seeing that HDR settings were not appearing on any of them. One of the experts below stated that you need to ensure that you have best resolution supported selected in the X1 menu. That is the default and how mine was originally set up on my 4K Xfinity boxes, 16:9, 2160p60 4K UHD. As it turns out, that is actually the problem. For some technical reason on Xfinity's end, the 2160p60 setting does not pass the HDR trigger. Simply changing my Video setting to 2160p30 (one setting lower) solved all the 4K HDR issues and provided the expected vibrant picture in 4K HDR on both the streaming apps and live sports broadcasts (i.e., World Cup, college football). Try that and I think you will find your problem solved.
The 2160p30 setting is fine for movies and other general entertainment but definitely not ideal for fast paced live action sports. For a reliably "smooth" picture for the fast movements of football, soccer, etc., the signal really needs to be at least 60p. Xfinity has to resolve this issue so we can actually use that 2160p60 setting as intended. Until then, the 2160p30 setting will have to do for 4K so you can get the vibrant HDR palette in your movies and other shows. For fast sports, I generally just stick with the standard HD feed of the event for now until 2160p60 is fixed.
