4k uhd is terrible

4k uhd MLB games are terrible on the comcast xfinity set top box. When i watch the same game on an apple tv 4k or a firestick 4k the colors are much more vibrant and video quality is impeccable. Why is comcast xfinity 4k broadcast so bad?!?!

the 2022 world cup is next month and i have no idea how I’m going to justify paying what i pay for 4k box when you cant even show a slow moving baseball game with vibrant colors and 60fps.

i know it’s not only me. There are plenty of other posts on this forum along with all of my friends in group chats confirming how washed out the colors are on comcast xfinity 4k.

The video quality for World Cup matches is terrible: the faces are blurry, the players are surrounded by compression artifacts, and the grass looks like a smudge. This is supposed to be HD but it is not.

Hello @user_1c232b! Have you checked the resolution settings on the X1 TV box?    When your X1 TV Box is set up, it'll automatically be set to the highest video output resolution possible for your TV, including 4K UHD. The best way to determine whether you can watch in 4K is to say, "Device Settings" into the Xfinity Voice Remote and then select Video Display. Across the top of that page will be three icons that identify 4K capability in both the TV Box and the TV. If the setup supports 4K, select Video Output Resolution to confirm the device is set to the best available resolution. Upon selecting, you should get a prompt to confirm the resolution. Select Yes and the device settings will be saved and 4K content will now play.

Just to clear one problem here. If you are watching any linear cable channel the best signal from Comcast is 720p.

As for 4K programing, you get what you pay for. Cheaper brands and models do not have the circuity needed to adjust all 4k signals, or lower properly. Your current television may be your problem. Check the tv manual for adjusting tv.

I currently only watch 4K on You Tube. I helped Comcast when they first came out with Ultra HD (4K) App in beta form. It worked for me and only a few others because they used my model of Samsung 3D 4K television (2016). I was able to watch hundreds or hours of 4K back then. It was "free". I never viewed washed out 4K HDR

Now they charge for it, and I get none. I have DSL for Internet and no problems. Comcast requires people to use their Internet for current 4K viewing. Never going to happen here.

Most problems brought to the forum are people who do not realize their equipment is old or inadequate for Comcast's streaming 4K. If you check, You Tube, under the Nerd section you will find many people tried to upload a 4K or 8K video and ended up with a 720p (default) copy on You Tube. This is caused by too many people now trying to watch 4K and not enough bandwidth to handle it all. Comcast is not alone with this problem.

In my neighborhood the current cable was buried bank in 1973. It has never been upgraded by 5 owners of this cable company.

does comcast actually broadcast the content in 4K--having a 4K TV and 4K cable box doesn't guarantee the programming is in 4K.  I have the NBA league pass and I'm fairly certain it's not 4K--I stream from the NBA app as well on my tv and the picture quality is much better.  I suspect comcast is just providing the games in HD, but not 4K.  Comcast's 4K support page notes only certain live events are 4K (e.g. only a few fox college football games in october were 4K--other sporting events weren't).

@user_Moe I had the same issue with 4K on the various streaming apps available in X1 interface and live 4K sporting events. Everything was washed out/dull. It was obvious that the issue was that the HDR was not getting triggered on the multiple 4K HDR TVs I have in use. This was verified by looking at each TV menu for adjusting picture and seeing that HDR settings were not appearing on any of them. One of the experts below stated that you need to ensure that you have best resolution supported selected in the X1 menu. That is the default and how mine was originally set up on my 4K Xfinity boxes, 16:9, 2160p60 4K UHD. As it turns out, that is actually the problem. For some technical reason on Xfinity's end, the 2160p60 setting does not pass the HDR trigger. Simply changing my Video setting to 2160p30 (one setting lower) solved all the 4K HDR issues and provided the expected vibrant picture in 4K HDR on both the streaming apps and live sports broadcasts (i.e., World Cup, college football). Try that and I think you will find your problem solved.

The 2160p30 setting is fine for movies and other general entertainment but definitely not ideal for fast paced live action sports. For a reliably "smooth" picture for the fast movements of football, soccer, etc., the signal really needs to be at least 60p. Xfinity has to resolve this issue so we can actually use that 2160p60 setting as intended. Until then, the 2160p30 setting will have to do for 4K so you can get the vibrant HDR palette in your movies and other shows. For fast sports, I generally just stick with the standard HD feed of the event for now until 2160p60 is fixed.

@curlw Thank you for bringing your concern regarding 4K HDR content at 60 fps to our attention here at the Xfinity Community Forums as part of this ongoing discussion. You should always be able to receive content at the best resolution supported for each program as well as your own equipment.

I see that you mentioned third-party apps and live sporting events. Does this issue with the picture persist on any other types 4K content?

I no longer work for Comcast.

@curlw I appreciate you clarifying and providing the additional details on the exact conditions for when you are experiencing these picture quality issues with HDR content and 60 fps. If this is something our engineers need to investigate that we are unable to solve with you remotely, we'll definitely want to have a ticket sent up.

Could you please send our team a direct message with your full name and full address?

@XfinityShaina Also, what happened to my "clarifying" post that you reference? It has disappeared from the forum. Did you delete it? If so, why?
