XR2 remote not paired to RNG150N box

I'm trying to help my parents setup a new cable box shipped to them. They received a RNG150N cable box with an XR2 remote.

The XR2 remote paired easily with their TV and AVR. However, out of the box it will not communicate with the RNG150N cable box. I cannot power off, change channels, or send any commands to the box.

Holding down setup and then pressing the xfinity button does not connect to the box either. Need help.
