Picture Size Keeps Changing

Why does the picture size change.   I'll be watching something when suddenly the picture size becomes enlarged.   This is happening more frequently.   The only way I can fix this is to unplug the cable box for 30 seconds.   The cable is plugged into the box and an HDMI cable goes from the box to the TV.  If there is a Technician out there..help.  I get no assistance calling Customer Support.

Check your TV remote, or in the TVs menu, for a Zoom or Picture size setting. It might be set to Auto. Try the different settings, usually 16:9 or Stretch.

TV picture is set to 16.9 standard.   This problem began when I switched from SD to HD 6 months ago.   Also,  recently replaced my TV.

To me it sounds like an "HDMI Handshake" issue between the box and TV that is causing the picture size to change while watching a program. I'm not sure what model of Comcast box you are using, but some models, like my DCX, allow you to change the picture/zoom size. You might also want to try a different HDMI cable and different HDMI port on the TV

This box doesn't have an option to change the screen settings.   At least none that I can find. I purchased a new HDMI cable when this problem started on my old TV.  The TV I have now is just a few weeks old.

What is the model box? On some of them you can use the remote, turn the box off and then press Menu or Select/Enter to go into a hidden settings menu.

Thanks.   I found the hidden menu.   All the screen settings are good.   16.9 ratio, 1080p, etc.  I'm stumped.   I don't understand how I can be watching back-to-back episodes on the same channel and the picture just doubles in size.

Can you check what the model number is on the box, and the tv model?

Box model is PR150BNM.  TV is a SAMSUNG.   Prior TV was a VIZIO.

Here is the link to the box manual

https://secure.xfinity.com/anon.comcastonline2/support/help/faqs/settopboxes/ENG-M-RNG150N-200N-501-3340000-User.pdf

It shows all the hidden menu settings, including the Aspect Ratio, Resolution, Auto Pillar box.

Should be set to 16:9, and for Resolution only select 1080i (none of the other 720, 480p, 480i). Having only 1080i selected forces the box to up convert SD channels to HD instead of the TV doing it.

I'm still thinking it's an issue between the box and the TV. I wonder if it's the box that is zooming in, or if the TV is doing it? Does it happen on HD and SD channels?

Maybe both.   I'm not sure about SD.  It definitely happens when viewing HD channels.
