New TiVo Purchase: Am I still able to move the Cablecards from my old TiVo Roamio Pros to new TiVos?

I have three older TiVo Roamio boxes with M1 cablecards where the Ethernet ports have fried due to recent nearby lightning strike.

I wish to replace them with new-to-me TiVo Roamio Pro boxes or new TiVo Edge boxes. I know that Comcast is not issuing new cablecards, but will Comcast re-pair and provision the already-in-use M1 cablecards to the new TiVos?

Ladd2 Hello! Thank you for reaching out to us here on our Community Forum. The best advice we can give you is that we can certainly try, since we are moving away from cable cards as a technology, we might be able to get this working, but there is a chance our system will not allow us to provision and activate them to a new TiVo.

The short answer is that you cannot (it appears) get a cablecard activated any more -- whether or not you already have one on your account. This happened to me today -- so unless there is a secret phone number for people to call to get cablecards activated, I guess that it is time to drop cable TV.

Yes, I know about https://cablecardactivation.xsp.comcast.net/ but it just says

  • We're having trouble accessing your account. Please contact the CableCARD activation support line at 1-877-405-2298 for assistance.

Five minutes later:

Even though the support rep told me that he couldn't activate the cablecard and that I should try and get one from Tivo (?) -- a bunch of channels suddenly appeared! Maybe all is not lost.

Xfinity no longer supports cable cards from Tivo. Xfinity also no longer offers cable cards to new or existing customers. This change was made roughly October/November 2024.
