Is the ETHERNET RJ-45 on the Set Top Box active?

I'm wondering if the ethernet LAN/RJ45 on a STB is active on the same network as my gateway?  If so is DHCP? Is there any setup needed in the STB to make it active or configure?

I didn't think so....too much BAD info floating around on FB.  Everyone is an EXPERT !
