I was told yesterday that since I have a "smart TV" I don't need my DVR...just the "xfinity stream app".  Just doesn't seem right. If I disconnect DVR and have no cable box at all, will I still get all the channels I'm paying for without any type of cable box?

That is a great question and I thank you for reaching out about it! I know before working for Xfinity I had similar questions. We have 3 types of equipment. An adapter that just allows live TV, a box that gives all live TV and On Demand with access to the recordings on the DVR, or a DVR is also an option to have. Or if you wish to access all the cable, and pay nothing monthly you can put a Roku on the TV or with a smart TV install the Xfinity stream app on it. That will get you everything our box does only it's using your equipment so no monthly charge.

See https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/activating-xfinity-stream-smarttvs for a description of the Stream Beta App and a list of the devices it works with.
