HD Signal Over Coax
I get HD signal on a digital antenna but not when I hook it up to comcast. Do they scramble and require you to have a box for every TV even though HD signal is universal over coax. That's pretty [Edited: "Language"] if they force you to rent a box just to get HD.
Should be able to subscribe to basic cable and just make a coax connection to the TV for it work.

Yep. Boxes are required. This was done many years ago when they switched to digital signal transmission. This was done to prevent cable theft.
