DVR Box lifespan

Had another question regarding DVR boxes: how long do they typically last for?

I've had an Xfinity modem/router for about seven years, and it still works, but have only held onto one DVR at length for about two years.

Also, is it required to service the unit at some point?

And after they're returned do the boxes go back out to customers?

My first DVR was the Motorola DCT-6412. I had it for about 11 years or so, and it was replaced with a DCX-3400 only because of the MPEG4 rollout.

If you mean like some kind of routine maintenance then no, there is nothing to maintain.

If they are a model that is still supported then yes, they are typically refurbished (if needed) and returned to availability.
