my landline is acting like a fax machine

When anyone calls my landline, they get a fax machine tone.  I called customer service and nobody could help.  Everything worked fine until about a month ago.  Restarted modem, everything, nothing works.  Why is my comcast voice landline number acting like a fax machine?  I have no fax machine hooked up to my phone line.

Hi, @user_d94dd8Q! Thank you for participating in our community forums. I understand how important it is to have the home phone working properly. Are you able to make outbound calls or is the issue specific to incoming calls?

@XfinityBiancaB  It is not affected for making phone calls.  Here is exactly what is happening:  (and I tried several times to tell an agent on the phone, but they either did not understand - just kept to their script without answering my questions or acknowledging the issue  Comcast customer service has really gone downhill!!).

I can call people on the phone and people can call me.  As long as I answer the call before voicmail picks up, no issue.  When comcast voicemail picks up (and answered is indicated int he voicemail history) people get a fax machine tone and cannot leave a message.

Are you using a computer that has the FAX option turned on?

No, I have a printer that has a fax option, but it is not connecated to the phone line and I don't use it.  And I have had it for a few years and this problem just started happening a month or so ago.  Thanks though.  Could the printer still be the issue - it is using comcast wifi.

Yes!  One of my HP printers does have the Fax option. I have used mine in the past.  It might be set up to receive a FAX.  The printer is on our second phone line.

Except I don't have the HP printer on any phone line, and I only have one phone line.  But worth checking out.  Thanks!!!!
