Yahoo migration - Can not get passed Yahoo password change page.

I have tried everything to finish up the migration of my comcast.net email to Yahoo - and nothing works.

I try to log in to my comcast.net email and I get the notification that it is now available at Yahoo. I then start the process and it then comes up with a page that indicates I need to secure my Yahoo account with a new password. I then attempt to put in a new password, and I have even allowed the system to generate a new password, and the next page comes up with an error that indicates "uh oh.... Looks like something went wrong. Try again later."

I try again later and the same thing happens.

I have tried the following:

1. Clearing the cache and data;

2.Using Private or incognito modes;

3. I have tried using Firefox, Chrome, Safari;

4. I tried to use the Xfinity email export tool;

I have tried to make the change on iPad, Mac. etc. and

NOTHING!

I am at my wit's end!

Can someone please help?

Thank you in advance.

@zzotto21 I’m sorry to hear of the issues you're having issues with your Yahoo password change. Our team is here to help.  When did this start?

Are you accessing Yahoo directly or using an app or third party pop clients such as outlook etc?

Were you able to accept the terms and conditions?

I have a link about our email migration here https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/yahoo-email-migration-overview

Midway through the page is a direct link for chat support for yahoo email migration issues. Here's that link to connect with a dictated chat support for customer that have migrated over to yahoo  https://welcome.yahoo.com/

I tried to migrate the account over starting last week.

I have tried to go through the migration starting at Xfinity and then I went direct to Yahoo. Both do not allow me to get past the Yahoo secure your account password change page.

I am accessing Yahoo through various internet browsers including Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc. Nothing works.

Yahoo says I need to use Xfinity customer support and Xfinity says I need to use Yahoo customer support. Really?

Please tell me exactly what to do.

Thank you.

@XfinityKei I have the exact same issue and have tried the same things as @zzotto21. What is the fix? I can't get email either on Comcast or Yahoo for two days now! Thank you.

@XfinityKei I have no idea what you are asking me to do. But....

I have tried everything. This should be pretty simple for you all:

I get to the secure my account page which requests a new password. I put in a new password and the next page indicates something like: "Oops. Something went wrong. Try again later." I never get to the page that allows me to accept Yahoo's terms and conditions.

Now I cannot access my email at comcast.net nor through Yahoo.

Nor does Yahoo's help page have anything on this and because I am not a paying Yahoo subscriber, they will not allow me to contact them.

Why is this so hard to figure out?

I have the same issue.  This seems to be a common problem. Why can't Comcast or Yahoo come up with a straight forward answer?

Clear cache and history, open an incognito browser and navigate to mail.yahoo.com.  Worked for me finally.  Think the incognito browser is the key.

Thank you so much. Using the incognito browser finally worked. My folders dumped into my inbox, but at least I have my email back. Thank you again.

Are you able to get your email without having to use incognito now?

@XfinityKei @XfinityAlfonso I have this exact same issue and am getting same runaround from support. I don't see how to direct message you. What do I need to do? I've spent 6 hours on the phone with support at this point and tried all of the listed ways some people got it to work.

Direct messaging isn't allowed until an official employee asks you to do so; it's against the Forum Guidelines and the Acceptable Use Policy to send anyone an unrequested DM/PM.  Also note, if you do send one without being asked to do so, it could possibly be ignored.

Just don't "upgrade". I don't know why people are saying they HAVE to upgrade because according to the FAQ: Do I have to upgrade my comcast.net email account to Yahoo Mail?
No, this is an upgrade we are offering customers at no cost so they can access their email on a better platform with enhanced security, more features, and a mobile app for easy access on the go.

If you don't upgrade, however, you will lose your @comcast.net email address.

Again, there is NOTHING that says they are shutting down the email servers and that you will lose access to your email address if you don't "upgrade". Is Comcast intentionally lying to us?

Do a search of the Email forum.  Plenty of employees have also stated that you will lose your email address if you don't migrate.  If you haven't migrated to Yahoo! Mail at the time migration is complete, Comcast will be shutting down their mail servers, thus you will no longer have an email address at Comcast.  IOW, you lose your @comcast.net email address.

OK, why [Edited: "Profanity"] would I have to search this forum for that IMPORTANT information? Why is it INTENTIONALLY misleading acting like it's an OPTIONAL thing with ZERO mention of losing access if you don't "upgrade"? Wouldn't the FAQ be a good place to put that?

Well, after many, many attempts of fixing this issue on my Apple desktop, I finally got my comcast.net email, after migrating it to Yahoo, working! And it has been a crazy ride.

It deals with an "app specific" password. The app in question is: Apple Mail!

I will paste the Yahoo instructions below. But be aware, I had difficulty in finding my Yahoo Security page, and then once found, you do have to "look" for the "External Connections", then in that box, "App Passwords." When I found all of that, it indicated that I did not have any App passwords. I then created one and I used "Apple Mail" as the app that I needed a password for: and it created a password for me. I wrote that password down.

I then went into my Apple Mail for my comcast.net email address. Go to "Mail" and click "Accounts" - not "Settings. The click on your comcast.net account. Once in that account, click "Details..." A small white box will pop up and you will see an area for you password. Delete that password as that is probably the Yahoo password you created when you migrated your account. Type in the password you wrote down when you had Yahoo generate the Apple Mail app specific password. Mine was 16 lower case letters with spaces after every 4th letter. I tried to cut and paste the password but this did not work. And it took me a couple of tries for the password to be accepted. If the password is accepted, the white box will disappear.

My comcast.net email then populated with a bunch of emails and the indication that is was "Offline" was gone. And now it is working as it should.

This is just absolutely crazy!!

Now how I got there:

Found the following link: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN15241.html

And this is what it states:

"Generate and manage 3rd-party app passwords

Third-party email apps (that do not use our Yahoo branded sign-in page) require you to enter a single password for login credentials. To access your Yahoo Mail account on these apps, you'll need to generate and use an app password. An app password is a randomly generated code that gives a non-Yahoo app permission to access your Yahoo account. You'll only need to provide this code once to sign in to your 3rd party email app.

  App passwords remain active - even if you change your main account password. To invalidate an app password you must delete it.

Generate an app password

When creating an app password, use a browser that you've used to sign into Yahoo for several days in a row and avoid using Incognito mode. If this isn’t successful, use webmail or the official Yahoo App to access your email. Customer care can’t override this process of determining App Password creation eligibility.

  1. Sign in to your Yahoo Account Security page.
  2. Under "External connections," click Create app password.
  3. Enter your app's name in the text field.
  4. Click Generate password.
  5. Use the one-time password to log in to your 3rd party app.
  6. Click Done."

I hope this works for you!
