Unable To Recieve Outlook Email But Can Get Webmail

All of a sudden Outlook stopped receiving emails and on my Android as well, but can send emails and can send/receive on Webmail. This is not a issue with settings because it just suddenly happened.  Here is the error:

Task 'xxxxxxx@comcast.net (2): Folder:Inbox Check for new mail.' reported error (0x800CCC0E) : 'Outlook cannot download folder Inbox from the IMAP email server for account xxxxxxx@comcast.net (2). Error: Cannot connect to the server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

I tried a reboot, cleared cache then Scanpst then Outlook/Safe Mode then verified the settings.  The Repair Option got the following error:

"We couldn't connect to the incoming (IMAP) Server"

After I completed this post I scanned this forum and found multiple posts for the same issue without a specific resolution.

Please help.

@joep63 - I believe I experienced the same thing (and I believe, though I'm relying on my memory here, that it has happened a couple of times in prior years as well) and as before it has resolved itself after being "unable to connect to server" (with that blacklisted log entry).  Beginning today my IMAP connections from Outlook (classic) and Apple Mail (iphone) are back to full normal operating mode.  I didn't do anything (to cause it to start failing or to cause it to resume working), just waited 5 days and it cleared up on its own.  I suspect Comcast was working on security around IMAP connections and inadvertently broke it.

Now to be fair, Comcast operates this email service at no charge (and amazingly extends that service to prior customers indefinitely!).  Given the situation I can understand why they are migrating it over to Yahoo as it's likely a drain on their resources to maintain it and it's increasingly not a part of their business model.  Another company might have just "cut it off" with perhaps a few days notice - I appreciate that they chose a different path.

@user_zv9301 I wasn't aware of Xfinity "migrating over to Yahoo" !  Did you get a notice of this action?

This IMAP issue has been going on and off for years as I saw throughout this Forum.  Xfinity must know how to fix it.

Thanks,

Joe P

Having the same issue. Can send and receive emails to my Xfinity webmail account, however Outlook on my desktop and Bluemail on my phone are not working.  I thought it could have been my firewall, however connecting to a hotspot on my work phone (which bypasses my home network firewall) proved the issue has something to do with Comcast and not a firewall restriction (plus you folks are also experiencing the problem).

If you log onto your Xfinity webmail, click the gear icon on the top right, then select the "Security" section on the right panel, there is a "Third Party Access Security" setting which must be enabled.  Mine is enabled, so my guess is they did something today which broke this feature.

@user_fc6ef1 Thanks!

I did check that setting and as suggested, unchecked and checked it.

I believe it is an Xfinity issue because it happened suddenly.  I did not change anything nor did I attempt to change anything since it was running flawlessly for as long as i can remember!

@XfinityJohnG Yes, I am still experiencing the IMAP issue as well as others on this forum.  This is day 3 and as I stated in my original post, this happened "all of a sudden".  Since nothing, and I mean nothing changed nor did I attempt to change anything related.

Thanks

@joep63, thanks for the update. We are seeing that this is an issue that is actively being worked on. The current workaround is to use the web based mail portal at : connect.xfinity.com/appsuite/. Sorry for the trouble, but our teams are aware. We appreciate you bearing with us.

I'm having the same issues (same effects and error messages), with both Outlook Classic on my Windows 11 PC and on my Samsung Android phone with the Samsung Email app.  I am able to access my Xfinity/Comcast email using Webmail, so the issue is not with my account, it's with accessing the Comcast servers. I have verified that the 3rd party app access is enabled on my Xfinity account. I also removed my Comcast email account from my phone and when I tried to re-add it on the phone, I was able to authenticate the password, but get "Couldn't verify account. imap.comcast.net isn't responding. You can continue the setup process, but you won't be able to send or receive emails until your account has been verified."

I first noticed this problem this morning around 9:30 AM EST.  Everything was working fine last night.

Please help!

I switched from port 993 to 143 and it finally started to work again today (after a week of not working with any setting)

@user_qai923 143 can be an unsecure port to use.  Didn't work for me anyway.

This happens too many times to too many people and comcast does nothing about it; as painful as it will be updating accounts but it's time to get rid of comcast email.

@GSearer Don't hold your breath thinking they are going to resolve your IMAP issue!!  Look around this forum and you will see that this IMAP issue is affecting many Users and off and on for years!!.  Some have experiencing a resolution after waiting 5 days without any changes. I am in day 3 of the IMAP issue without any help from Xfinity support.

I can't even get Classic Outlook to put the account in the app- it immediately gets hung up when trying to add it. Any suggestions?
