why does the IMAP account password pop up each time after I have already updated my email

Last night when I opened my email a box popped up for me to log in to IMap account. I don't even know what that means.

I called comcast today and a technician helped me but my email is not right and the box is still popping up. WHAT IS THIS

While I'm no ambassador or evangelista for the $$$ of dollars I pay to Comcast each month expecting superior connectivity and products, I do sometimes have to wonder about Apple's updates locking down more and more of the device in the name of personal safety.  This issue, happens all the time, and usually flares up after major iOS/iPadOS/etc. updates that we take for granted nowadays.  I do with that for the $$$ I pay Comcast that they could sway more influence with major OS providers and TEST THINGS BEFORE RELEASE.  Anyway, with IMAP, just delete your account and reinstall it.  Takes seconds using your personal password manager holding the credentials.  And if it continues to the point of bothering you...use your iCloud.com email address...never have a problem with it!

Just another frustrated customer dealing with the same issues starting yesterday. I do wonder if this is due to Comcast.net email accounts being migrated to Yahoo Mail server. I wonder if it is creating issues for very old email accounts. This migration is happening in phases and it seems we are all experiencing this starting at different times with no eventual resolution.

bkilpatrick I want to make sure you're able to access your important Emails. Are you able to send and receive Emails from our website webmail service? What is the make and model of your phone? You can select your make and model here and the site will guide you through the steps of checking your IMAP settings for accuracy.

IMAP password pop up continues even after I’ve changed password.  So annoying!

Good morning @sksklein, and thanks for posting to the Xfinity forums today, I hope this message finds you well. As someone that uses multiple email account for both work and personal use, I can understand the frustration of issues with the email, but you have come to the right place for assistance. When you deleted the email account from the phone and added it back on, did it come up with the same error as when it was already on the phone?

Yes same error.  As mysteriously as the problem arose, it disappeared for nearly three weeks.  And now it’s back.  Please let me know how to fix it.

Thanks for confirming. Is this only occurring on your iPhone, or are you experiencing the same issue on other Apple devices using Apple mail?

I’m having the same issue.  Long time Comcast email account user with no imap issue on an iPhone until yesterday.  Now the imap error message continues to appear.  I’m on an iPhone 16 with no recent iOS updates.  My password has not changed and my Xfinity email is working fine on my desktop through a browser.  Here are my troubleshooting steps so far:

1.  Confirmed in Xfinity email settings that access to third party programs is allowed.

2.  Re-entered my password multiple times.

3.  Deleted and re-added my Comcast email on my iPhone.

4.  Turned the phone off and back on.

Thanks for your help.

I too get this issue frequently but not for several months, then again it started and is extremely annoying. The only reason I haven't left Comcast Xfinity all together is I have used the address for other services for a long time but if this doesn't stop it will be worth back tracking and disconnecting all my accounts from this service.

I am having the same issue bringing email from comcast to Outlook on laptop.  I have done all of the troubleshooting recommended.  stops for a while then comes back.  No issues logging in directly to Comcast.  No password or configuration changes.  The issue is with server Imap.comcast.net

I had the same issue. A pop up box asking to enter the password for the IMAP account. For almost a week I could not retrieve my emails from my iPhone. I was able to see my emails from my desktop. I finally figured out how to retrieve my emails from my iPhone. I downloaded the Xfinity app on my iPhone. Click on Internet and mobile, tap on your account at the top. Finally, I can retrieve my emails from my iPhone. I hope this helps everyone out there having the same issue.

Thanks for posting this solution. Will Comcast expect us to access our emails like this forever?  Does anyone at Comcast read this forum?

Hey there, @19regor39, thanks for reaching out through Xfinity Forums regarding your email services. There was a known issue effecting our email services. Have you checked if you are still having this issue?

I spent a lot of my time trying to stop the pop up and be able to use my email, and then I found multiple complaints aimed at Comcast. We now know the problem isn’t for us to correct, it’s Comcast’s or Xfinity’s, whatever they call themselves. How can we get them to fix what they [Edited: "Language"] up? I want a refund for the days and weeks this program hasn’t been working as it did weeks ago.

After posting my comment, Xfinity sent me a message from a virtual texter asking for feedback about the pop-up problem. After thoroughly explaining what is happening to me and others there was no advice on how to address the problem and then it asked if it had resolved my issue.  NO  Then it sent a link to fil out for more information https://t.xfin.me/10BOBF0 . I filled all that out and the reply they sent was "We appreciate your feedback."  I asked: "When can we expect satisfaction and repair of this problem?"

The reply: Thanks for your response.

This has been going on for me off and on for months on iPhone 16. It's random, sometimes it works fine and other times it keeps asking for a password on all 5 of the comcast.net email addresses I have. The only way I get it to work is turn off my VPN, close the mail program and open it again - then all my email comes in. Then I turn my VPN back on and it continues to work for a while until the next time it happens. Not sure if that will work for anyone else but works for me. I am using the AT&T ActiveArmor Mobile Security VPN.

s8m6fk:  I don't have a VPN unless Comcast provides one with their "service" that I'm unaware of.

This morning I was at a McDonald's using my iPad and Apple Mail. I was signed into the free WiFi and the email was working great. Until about an hour later when the box of death appeared. Using the iPad's email had ended for that session. So, what is causing erratic behavior like this?  Could it be my iPad failing, something amiss with the free WiFi, or something deeper, like the Comcast email program?  When I got back home the email worked fine again.  That was today.  Email doesn't always work at home, the pop-up shows up at home too. Others on this forum have changed passwords, deleted their account and started anew, all to no avail.  Comcast has been deaf to the complaints.

Thanks for that information, 19regor39. Sorry to hear you are still having issues with your email. Are you able to still access your email through our website when out of the house, or issues with Apple Mail and our website?

I have found when I move from unsecured WiFi with VPN to another area, Xfinit gives the IMAP kiss of death.
Xfinity will apologize and do nothing (frequently mentioned in the past few years - first time I had the problem was in 2023 in another country). As long as you can access via website’not my problem’

solution. Go to secure WiFi. Power off phone. Power on (first mail and then VON connect) and you should be good to go.

i used to have a problem just changing countries- happening repeatedly in CA ( maybe we should be our own)

I’ve been having the same issue off and on for months now. Usually disconnecting from wifi fixes it for a couple hours but now I just keep getting this error “

Cannot Get Mail

The mail server "imap.comcast.net" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings.

Server code "ALERT", server message

"Temporarily blacklisted IP Address - try again later".

I haven’t changed the password in years so it’s not that. I’ve deleted and reinstalled. Didn’t work. All my settings match what is recommended. I can’t get emails at all on my phone now.
