Xfinity Discount Scam

Called with offer of 50% discount if prepaid with either a new Target credit card or gift cards. Believed it to be legitimate because caller said they would pay off my current account balance of $233 which someone actually did as my current account balance is zero and there was a credit on my account statement for $233. So I gave the gift card number and access code which they promptly drained. Today I received another text telling me to contact them because there was a problem processing the Target card.  Told them to go away.

i believe there was inside assistance in getting to my account to process the payment which cleared my account balance. You need to look into this and issue a broadcast warning to all customers and get the FBI involved before too many people fall victim to this scam.

@Xfinity YOU SHOULD BE REACHING OUT TO US.  PERIOD!  Our data has been stolen, your systems have obviously been breached and you have not disclosed it.  You are in violation of many consumer protection laws at this point.  There will be a class action lawsuit.  I get one of these calls once a week.  I ignore any call that doesn't come from a number I have in my address book and know this is BS, but many people DO NOT.  IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO INFORM YOUR CUSTOMERS AND THE FCC/FTC THAT YOU HAVE HAD A SECURITY BREACH AND LOST CONSUMER DATA.  The fact the scammers are "paying off" peoples accounts and have in depth knowledge of their account details, also points to them having current access to your systems, access to very current data (from a breach) or one of your foreign call centers has gone rogue.  I get a bunch of text from Xfinity about my bill you have the ability to text and email all of your customers.  Get on it.

@user_4dd4f6 I wholeheartedly agree! Xfinity should have warned their customers. This was/is a sophisticated hack job. I'm glad I didn't buy gift cards but they pd my bill and gave me $125 credit.  They took it all back after 8 days.  Xfinity sent an email stating that I owe return check fees.  I immediately called and they removed it. Whew!

@user_4dd4f6 Anyone know a legal firm that would take a class action suit? The lack of response from XFinity is criminal.

I just received a similar call from [Edited: "Personal Information"] - unless the phone# was also ghosted. Was told to call back at [Edited: "Personal Information"], which also appears to be suspicious.

You need to make all Xfinity customers aware of these web sites. I was never aware of their existence until now.

This happened to me, phone message to call [Edited: "Personal Information"] to recieve 50% off my bill.  But then was told I had to pay 10 months in advance. When I replied no they quickly hung up. Ironiclally the call sounds like you are talking to Xfinity. Same music playing in the background , same choices to make who you are talking too.  Actually it is easy for us to want to call....80 dollars a month for basic internet is a little pricey, but since I only have Xfinity in my area they know I have no choice. Sad.

@XfinityRichard I, too, was contacted with the 50% promotion plus $100 free Visa if I would prepay the promo amount of $79.99 a month with a one time payment of $400 to be made with a Target gift card.  I about fell for it but something told me to call Xfinity and they advised that they had no such promotion and advised me to disregard.  This is totally frightening since they seemed to have access to my Xfinity records, promised to pay my current bill (they knew the amount), even sending a very official looking Xfinity emailing confirming the terms of the promotion.  Almost impossible to detect except for the gift card payment and a gut feeling.  The other tip-off was they wanted a time that I would be calling with the gift card number, trying to nail me down to a specific time.

I just had almost the exact thing just happen to me. Including somehow my balance being paid off. Scary! I was told I had to pay 6 months in advance with Target gift cards. But I actually stopped just as I was leaving for Target, and FINALLY managed to reach a live person at Customer Support (which is almost impossible!). Gave him all of the information.

I received a call two weeks ago. I was told that if  I could pay  1200 dollars  my current balance would be paid  and future payments would only be 150.00. I started asking questions and rep became rude and only wanted to know if I could pay the1200.00 that day. I said  I had to think about it and rep hung up on me. I tried to call number that showed up as "Comcast" on caller id [Edited: "Personal Information"] and got the message that the number was no longer in service. Called the xfinity number and rep told me there was no such plan.  makes me think that my info was sold to someone. The scam rep knew all of my personal info and balances. like the previous post said "Scary"

Same thing happened to me on Saturday. Caller claiming to be from Xfinity had left a voicemail for me so I called back. 50% off my bill for 2 years, just pay 10 months upfront. Plus be upgraded to 1.2 TB internet and a free modem to be delivered on Oct 4th. He asked for my account 4 digit password, I couldn't remember, so I tried common ones I use. None of them worked, then I remembered the one I used for Xfninity and it worked. So, they knew my 4 digit password, my last bill amount to the penny, my email address etc. Some kind of data breach I assume. Called wanted me to pay $1,200 in Target Gift Cards. Asked if I had that amount in gift cards on me. Told him no, that I would have to get them at Target. He offered an extra $200 in gift cards if I was able to pay the $1,200 today. He gave me a number to call when I got my gift cards as well as a confirmation number. I was excited I was about to save so much money. After the call I googled "Xfinity Target Gift Cards" and this came up, along with a ton of other scam alerts. Even the hold music was Xfinity. It's the best scam I have ever seen offered to me. They almost had me, kind of. Would never have bought the gift cards without googling first, plus I would have looked up the Xfinity number to call from Google, instead of calling one provided by the caller. But wow. Somehow these scammers got our info from Xfinity, and not just our contact info.

Hey [Edited: "Inflammatory/Language"] Xfinity -

Take responsibility. Getting the same scam. The number is [Edited: "Personal Information"]. Sounds like Xfinity and scams w Target cards or direct pay for 3 months.

How about having call centers in the US? [Edited: "Language"].

Here  are the phone # I received the message: [Edited: "Personal Information"]. They left a voicemail to call [Edited: "Personal Information"] to get 50% off the Xfinity Internet. I checked 411.com reverse phone number and Xfinity was not listed as owning the numbers. Reported as fraud.

I just got a call like this, I didn't recognize the number so I didn't answer.  But the caller ID listed a person's name, which would not be the case if Xfinity were really calling me, so I knew it couldn't be legit.  The message said my account qualified for a 50% discount and left a number to call back between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (which is weird because right now we're still on Daylight time).  The number they left was [Edited: "Personal Information"].  I hope this helps.

I just experienced the same thing the red flags came up for me was I don't believe in going to buy something to get something so that was a red flag for me and it didn't sit well with me about what was being said on the other end of this caller with a noisy background fast talking and I pressured him off of me quickly I am going to report this incident to the government and I'm going to call Xfinity and tell them why haven't they stepped in and put a stop to this [Edited: "Language"] okay because this ain't right and I'm going to call eBay and tell them the same [Edited: "Language"] thing

It is very frustrating that the Xfinity reps on this thread won’t take responsibility and forward this information for us.  I too was contacted but cannot reach a real person in Xfinity even after days of trying. Please help us.

Making a payment on an account is not an "inside job".

Let me guess, you gave them your account number?

Anyone can make a payment on an account. You fell for a scam and that is not Comcast's fault.

@user_053ff2 I can tell you that I did not give them my account number, I don't know my account number unless I look it up, which I didn't. They looked up my account from my phone number. They do have access to Comcast"s database, that is for sure. How else would they know my bill amount, plan details, equipment etc?

@user_053ff2 you guessed wrong. I didn't give them the account number. Yet somehow they were able to post a payment that showed up on my app. Either an inside job or account was hacked. Both are Comcast liabilities.

I also received call for a 50% discount. I was left with this phone number to call - [Edited: "Personal Information"]. I grew suspicious when the caller wanted me to pay $500 up front. I did provide my email address but then, said I wasn't interested in this opportunity so the caller ended the call quickly. I assume this is the same type of scam. It is really difficult to know if someone is calling as an official Comcast employee.

I nearly fell for the same scam and each time we conversed the person(s) on the other end had a Bali accent. They wanted $900.00 payment in Target gift cards and if paid today before 4PM EST using a provided promotion code that I would receive a $100 gift card back.  I would agree either there's an inside job or our account information has been compromised!

The same thing just happened to me today.  They called my cell, left a phone number to call back, and then had an Xfinity-like call center system that connected me to an agent who offered me a $165 flat rate for 2 years if I paid 6 months upfront. After all the details were discussed (and actually better than with a real agent), they told me they would waive my upcoming payment, which THEY DID by crediting my Xfinity account by the actual amount of the bill I owed. That's really scary - so now I have a $0 balance and they say I need to pay with a Target Corp account since Target is their partner for this special offer. They tried to connect with another person to collect payment but I hung up because the 50%-off offer was too good to be true and because the customer service was also too good to be true.

Worst part is they are so good at impersonating Xfinity and it is so hard to get a human on the Xfinity help line that I don't know which inbound calls are legit and scams now. I believe the scammers actually called me and the other phone numbers on my account back again pretending to be Xfinity help desk and fishing for more information about my account and payment methods

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience as well, @user_33ed45. I know that can be a scary thing to go through. The Customer Security Assurance department does a great job of posting any known scams on the Security Alert page. If you feel your account has been breached we encourage you to change your password and also to reach out to the CSA team. @user_33ed45  it is hard talking to a live person at xfinity. I used chat, topic scam and asked to be called. They immediately called.  I had same issue. I didn't fall for it though,  almost. They had an answer for everything. Scam and hack.

Same happened to me today. Instead of 165, it was 610 for me because I had multiple xfinity services. Really scary.

If you have gotten a call claiming to be from Comcast asking you to buy gift cards or paying upfront for six months or more in exchange for 50% off your bill the FTC is well aware of this scam.  If you get a call like this you can report it to:     https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/
Please help to stop the spread of this kind of fraud.
