Very serious complex email issue with Outlook and Comcast

I have a very serious issue with Outlook 2016 email. Microsoft updated Win 10 Aug 21 with KB5066188 and thats when the trouble began. I read today that in fact that update did affect Outlook email but I was scared to go further figuring that out.  Outlook will not open my 'favorites/personal folders/ inbox and gives me this message...."The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file C:\Users\Terri\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\[Edited: "Personal Information"]."

So I cannot access my inbox and cannot send or receive mail and all my personal folders are gone . I can use Comcast webmail to send and receive but my personal folders do not exist there and thats where I keep all my  'stuff' which is so very important. When I tried to repair it thru Outlook acct settings  I get this error message...."could not connect with  incoming IMAP server. None of the authentication methods  supported by Outlook are supported by your server.  For more information connect your email administrator."   Tried to update IMAP incoming server settings and when I looked up the correct settings I got conflicting information on Xfinity including  Xfinity chat but tried  to change incoming setting and that failed  so I stopped.  I used Office 2016 quick repair as I had used it before for other issues and it always worked but not this time. Then I used Office 2016 on- line repair which I had never used before and after it finished I ended up with the NEW OUTLOOK being added on my computer.  WHAAT? I  can send and receive mail there but no personal folders. I do NOT want NEW OUTLOOK...period!! All I want is for Outlook 2016 to be my only mail app and be able to open inbox and send and receive mail like it did before. So now I have Outlook 2016 AND New Outlook but neither work the way I need.

I am an older lady and have exhausted trying to deal with all this myself and need L2 or L3 Comcast email support. I cannot believe how horribly messed up things are and it all started with that darn Windows update. I did back it out when I thought it might be the issue but that did not help and it installed it again of course the next day.  I am willing to pay Xfinity for L2 or L3 support and I need them desperately.  This problem is too extensive and messily complicated for me to use any chat with Xfinity. i need phone support.  I have 100% exhausted trying to fix this myself. Its been many days and I am losing my mind.  They helped my 100% months ago when I lost all my email from the server. PLEASE HELP ME.

I see that some of the error message  that I get when I try to open my inbox that I posted here was declined due to my email address being in there so I modified it for the forum. "The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file C:\Users\Terri\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\XXXXXXXXXXX@comcast.net.ost."

Hi there, @TerriB! Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Community Forum and sorry to hear about the trouble with Outlook after updating Windows. It sounds like the issue may be with your computer/the Windows update itself, and not our mail since you are able to access it online. Our email settings for third party clients are located here : https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email.  Have you contacted your computer manufactuer or Microsoft at all to see if it's possible to roll back that update?

I rolled back the update once and it did not fix the problem. It updated it again so I just rolled it back again and stopped further updates for now. The rollback both times did not fix the problem. I cannot imagine that the update caused me not be able to see my inbox or send/receive mail in Outlook 2016. My server settings must be ok because I got test email (had to view it in Comcast webmail) but I still cannot open my inbox in Outlook 2016 or send/receive.  This error message is why I need Comcast tier 2 or 3 help. When I try to repair

it tells me to contact my email admin. " The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file C:\Users\Terri\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\XXXXXXXXXXX@comcast.net.ost."

I just want to be able to open my inbox and send/receive in Outlook 2016  and I feel confident that your technical support can fix it. Right now I have to deal with THREE email programs including that NEW Outlook that was installed without my permission when I tried to repair Office 2016 with their on line repair.  It seems to be an 'ost' issue and I am not even sure why I have an ost AND a pst.

I just installed the NEW Outlook program that installed when I did the online Office repair but that did not fix the problems. I just want Outlook 2016 to operate like it did before. FYI...there are no issues with my computer.

Thank you for clarifying, @TerriB. The file you received the error about (C:\Users\Terri\AppData . . .) is a local file on your computer's "C" drive. This is where Outlook usually stores your personal settings and preferences that make it work the way it does on your machine. It's possible the original KB5066188 update attempt may have caused these errors to occur with the original Outlook folder, since that was when you first started having issues. You can sometimes fix these issues by performing a quick repair in Microsoft Office, but it sounds like you've already tried that. I'm guessing the installation of the New Outlook is using a different file location than your Outlook 2016 installation, which is why you are not getting the same error about a corrupted file, but you are also not seeing your previous folder personalizations either. Unfortunately, we are unable to troubleshoot file or program issues on your computer. Something like that would need to go through Office or Microsoft support.

I just checked more deeply and the issue with Outlook and Win 10 update KB5066188 is not the issue I have. I have used quick repair office 2016 again but still cannot open my inbox or send/receive emails. **I mis-spoke on earlier reply to you....should have said I UNINSTALLED the New Outlook program that installed when I did the online office repair but nothing has changed. Since one of the errors said to contact my email administrator I assumed that meant you guys??? Its an OST issue as to why I cannot open my inbox. Your advanced team fixed a problem with my Outlook 2016 and Comcast once before so I thought for sure I could get that help again.

That is good to know, @TerriB. When you had this issue before, were you getting the same error message about your local Outlook file folder? Do you happen to recall approximately when you called in about this?
