scam

Just received a call saying that customer service was attempting to upgrade the router remotely from 4G to 5G.  As I was going to see what color my router was... she (with a heavy Indian accent) began telling me to please type in a code in my PC.  I played dumb and pretended to not understand what she was asking while googling "xfinity scam 5G" and boom! I was led to this site.  As soon as I began reading some former posts and they hung up on me. They were very smooth and professional.  With so many companies dealing with Indian call centers, it has become very difficult to distinguish between scams and real calls.  It would be helpful if there were some kind of secure verification process.  I also wanted to chat online with customer service but was unable to find it.

Yes, it was a scam. I never trust anyone calling. They can spoof any ID on phone number they wish.

I had the exact same experience today 5/4/23.  They were very professional, the scam involved downloading ULTRAVIEWER to allow them to upgrade my modem to 5G. When Google mentioned scam, I stalled for more confirmation.  They knew my Name Address and Account Number!!! XINITY HAS A SECURITY PROBLEM.

FIX THIS AND PUBLISH IT TO ALL OF YOUR CUSTOMERS. You are allowing intruders into ALL of our computer files!!

Oh my goodness, that is scary and I am so glad to know you did not complete the process they were asking you to do. The best course of action, in this case, would actually be to report this to our Customer Security Assurance. You can contact them by following this link: https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/report-abuse/ or by calling CSA Toll-Free Number: 1-888-565-4329.

Just had the same call.  I knew off the bat something was amiss when she mentioned upgrading "your router from 4G to 5G"....uh, my router doesn't use cellular technology.  Played along until it got to the point where she wanted me to download Ultraviewer (remote control software - very bad idea) to my PC and decided I'd wasted enough time and hung up.  Makes me wonder what their "success" rate is on actually getting someone to allow them to control their PC.  Will try reporting that to Xfinity, but the URL posted above is not working right now.
