Scam call to update router
I received a call yesterday about updating my router from someone identifying themselves as being from Xfinity . I was walking out the door so I asked them to call me back today. They did and said that they had been trying to send security updates to my router that were not going through. He had me get out my computer and check an area and some Program or something was marked as stopped. He then had me download a program, and when I realized it was an EXE file I did not want to open it. I questioned him, and he assured me nothing would happen. There was no problem nothing would happen. I became very suspicious asked for his name and number , and then the line went dead. I’ve called the phone number and someone again with an Indian accent answered Comcast. I hung up two minutes later I got a call that although it was from the 470 area code simply said United States in my call location and the person said that they were from Comcast that I had just tried to call them. When I said I was trying to determine if they are phone calls to me were scams or not. They hung up the Phone , I assume that means they were a scam. I have not seen much on this type of scam. Has anyone else experienced it

I received the same call 5/15/23. The woman said she was from Comcast. The phone number was from Dayton,OH. I'm sure. Asked me to get my computer out. Told her I didn't have one. Ok well I will have a technician come out. Told her sure. She hung up. [Edited: "Language"]

I just had something similar happen to me, only I allowed it to get a lot further cause I'm dumb. A man claiming to be from Xfinity called saying that they weren't able to push through an update to my router. He asked me to go to a specific ip address. When that didn't pull anything up, he told me that meant there was something wrong with my router and they'd need to use my computer as a hub to push the update. He had me download UltraViewer, install, and run. I asked if this mean he was going to remote my computer and he said no, it would just allow them to use my computer as a hub to update my router software. So, I gave him the ip and password on UltraViewer. When saw that he was remoting my computer I told him to go to hell and did a hard shutdown on my computer. I've since uninstalled the program and they weren't able to do anything on my computer before the hard reset.

I just received the exact type of call from an unavailable number. I usually do not answer calls that are unknown or unavailable numbers. However, today I did. The Indian speaking calling said the exact same thing. He identified himself as Mike from xfinity and that they were trying for the last few days to send updates my router and it wasn't going through.
I knew it was a SCAM!!! Xfinity has never and will never make such a call regarding your router. Besides that, I purchased and own my router. It is not rental. I exposed him and hung up the phone.
Please do not allow yourself to be scammed. When in doubt simply hang up and call the official number for Xfinity. Or whoever else that you deal with. Never allow anyone to have you download or allow them access to take control of your computer. And never ever give out any personal information ever! Just hang up the call.

just received the exact type of call from an unavailable number and it is the Same guy named 'Mike'. I asked him instead of updating my Router, can you provide your Xfinity Router as free of cost and do your security updates. Then he said it can be done, but first update your current router, then i replied to say why do i need it when you are providing Xfinity router. So then i told him to call after 2 days in between i will call to Customer service for the confirmation today. Then he hang up.
I hope Xfinity should take care of these scam calls as well after seeing all these posts from customers. I don't know, Xfinity is tracking and rectifying these scam call issues from their end.
