Gateway not compatable with our new printer. I want to reinstall our old 2G Gateway

Good Afternoon
I have reinstalled this new 5G Gateway many times. Our laptops are within 10 feet of the new router, and it is slower than our 2G Gateway. Yes, we have the extender to go with it, but that shouldn't be necessary, and I don't feel it is secure. Our new printer will not work with the new 5G Gateway. HP says no, not even with Ethernet. Anyhow, can I reinstall my 2G Gateway and try to install a secure, my own repeater securely? Comcast wants me to hurry up and return their product, but I can’t get the assistant to understand my problem.
Thank you

Hello @Tippet6x,

Just to clarify, all the newer Xfinity modems have both the 2.4 GHz band and 5 GHz band. The Overview of Xfinity Wi-Fi Gateways and Routers article shows each of our modems and confirms their band capabilities. There should also be no issue connecting the device via ethernet. Which modem did you recently receive?

Thank you for your quick response. I did not make it clear about the Ethernet, HP says no and they have the port plugged on the printer.

To answer your question I received a CGM4331COM. I have tried repeatedly to install the printer also. All the workarounds I could come up with.

Hello @Tippet6x, Thank you for providing the modem model. I see that you have an XB7 Gateway, which includes dual-band Wi-Fi capabilities.

Have you tried splitting the Wi-Fi bands so that the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks display as separate network names?

Good Afternoon and thank you for your reply. I really do appreciate your answer, but have no idea how to do that. Also, this new XB7 Gateway is slower than the old one. I gifted my husband a new laptop and the new XB7 Gateway is so slow, when I try to install a virus scanner it times out. As of now we won't use it for anything important.

Splitting bands is quite easy, @Tippet6x. It is actually not recommended as your XB7 should be able to automatically detect the correct band needed for each device to connected. We do find that some customers do prefer this option as they manually assure that each device is connected to the correct band. The How to change your home network's WiFi channel selection or mode article will provide you with instructions on how to split the bands.

You also mentioned that you are experiencing slow speeds, this is not the norm. Do you know which speed tier you have for your internet service, and have you run a speed test to see what speeds your devices are receiving?

Good Afternoon Justin
Thank you for your input. I have been trying to explain to assistants and associates that it's not normal. So I have told them they should be aware after almost two months of trying. Please understand I am not abusive or aggressive to anyone. I think the speed is between 300 MBPs and 500 MBPs. The website changes constantly so it is very hard to be sure what they are offering.. I don't have to ask because when I logon the AI immediately tells me there are no outages and WOW, my speed is really flying!
I do use other methods to check and it is somewhat slow, but like the old days when we used Ethernet, too many people cause it to be slow or drop us.
All I need to know is, will I make a mess of everything if I reinstall my old Gateway?
I am usually good at working out problems, but I'm stuck on this one after almost two months of trying.
