“Free iPad” scam review

I was told by an Xfinity agent over the phone about an “amazing deal” where my monthly bill would be lowered to $96 and I’d get a FREE iPad. Needless to say, that was a lie.

The iPad isn’t free—I’m being charged on a payment plan for it. The $96 monthly charge was also false, as my September bill jumped to $200 when it had only been $122 before.

On top of that, Xfinity now calls me 5–6 times a day trying to pressure me into activating a mobile line on the iPad—something that was never once mentioned in the original call. I don’t need another mobile line. I already have one.

Xfinity should be ashamed. They’re a massive company, yet they still feel the need to mislead and scam their customers

We’re really sorry to hear about the experience you’ve had — it’s absolutely understandable to feel frustrated when the details of a promotion aren’t what you were expecting. The way you’ve described things doesn’t line up with how we want these offers to be explained, and we never want you to feel misled.

To help clear things up, the iPad promotion is tied to an Xfinity Mobile line. The device itself is placed on a payment plan, and credits are applied each month as long as the mobile line remains active — that’s how the iPad ends up being “free.” Without the mobile line, the monthly credits aren’t applied, which makes it look like you’re being charged for the iPad.

As for your bill, we’d like to take a closer look at your account to go over the changes and make sure everything is set up the way you agreed.  Can you initiate a direct message and start with your full name and address? To start a direct message, you must be signed in. Please click the "Direct Messaging" icon in the top right of the page next to the bell, and send your message to "Xfinity Support". Talk to you there!

This is exactly what happened to me and now I’m told I owe $504 because I cancelled the line. I was told on 7/23/25 that I’m being given a free iPad for my troubles with issues on my home internet and tv accounts. I had to pay $64 upfront but there would be no charges going forward. I was never even told how much the iPad cost or that there would be a mobile line on it.  But worse for me, I’ve called 4x and spent over 4 hours on the phone with reps who say they understand and not to worry, I owe nothing… but that is not true. The balance says $504. I said I want to return the device as I did not really need or want it in the first place. I was only accepting a gesture to make good for my other account troubles but this is by far the worse issue. I’m a new business owner and Xfinity is sucking up my time and piling on stress with their deceptive and incompetent employees and offers. I just want my money back.

The sales manager lied to me to get me to sign with. You promised me a free iPad or free upgraded iPhone since the one I have is old and not doing too well and I called to check on when my equipment is gonna be here and where my iPad was Then I was told that they never sent it out so it was late getting to me then it finally does come, but when I was on the phone with a lady, I asked her why what happened? She said at the same thing happened to her husband and that you guys never resolved it either I left an Internet company and a phone company for you guys and was promised all this stuff and now I’m getting told yeah [Edited: "Language"] you you’re not getting anything. does that make sense at all that you guys can just lie to me to get me to sign a plan with you and then tell me you’re gonna give me this and that and then the day comes and you never follow through in fact when I call you, tell me basically tough [Edited: "Language"] so I need this made right immediately. I will be taking my business elsewhere
