3rd Party Email Apps No Longer Working

Hi, since I cancelled my Xfinity service, 3rd party emails apps such as Mailwasher and Thunderbird have stopped working for me. I use these tools to filter out spam. I checked my Xfinity configuration, and I do have "Allow 3rd party applications" checked so that is not the problem. Outlook still works.

Is there a way to fix this problem so that the 3rd party apps work again? Your help is greatly appreciated.

You will need to have Third Party Access Security checked in your settings to allow 3rd party clients (outlook, thunderbird, etc) to access your comcast email. Adding this for clarification

That just means any changes to your mail on one device syncs on all connected devices, plus on comcast's email site.

I would check this:
https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/third-party-email-access

  • Sign in to Xfinity Email using your Xfinity ID and password.
  • In the top-right corner, click the Gear icon, then select Settings.
  • Click Security.
  • Uncheck the box under Third Party Access Security to prevent third-party programs access to your Xfinity Email, or check the box to allow access.

Also this might help: https://www.xfinity.com/mobile/support/device-troubleshooting?page=device/apple/iphone-xs-max-ios-18/topic/e-mail/setup-email/choice/xfinity-imap

@XfinityPeterH Like I said, the allow third party access is already checked and I still have this problem. Is there a fix?

user_lbltpq You would want to reach out to Mailwasher or Thunderbird to see if they have any solutions as we are not able to provide support for 3rd party apps.

I don't think that you are understanding me. The 3rd party apps have worked perfectly for years. It was only when I canceled my Xfinity service that this problem started to occur. Although I have allow third parties checked, apparently you are blocking access most likely because I no longer have Xfinity service. (I still kept my email)

Is there a way to restore that access for these 3rd party apps?

Thanks for confirming those details. Have you checked that your settings are configured correctly? Here is a link with more details, https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email.

I checked the settings and they are correct. Like I've stated above, the 3rd party apps on windows worked perfectly for >10 years. They only stopped once I cancelled my service. Clearly you are blocking 3rd party access since I canceled my service. Is there a way for you to restore access to your server?

Thank you, to confirm, you are on the IMAP settings?

Other than that, like we mentioned earlier there won't be anything else we can actually change on our side, just make sure all settings are correct.

You're not able to determine why you cut off access to me from your server? Why are you not able to research that and see if there is a solution? Again the stated problem is at your end and not the 3rd app nor the settings. (Unless the requisite settings changed)

Please provide me an answer. Thank you.

We have limited support options for our email online accounts for troubleshooting. We are unable to provide support for third party clients. If you have issues with a third party client we would recommend reaching out to them directly for support.
