Xfinity TV Channels and ROKU: Where Can I Find The Best Roku TV For Me?

One of these days, I'm planning to add TV to my Xfinity package, and I'm thinking about getting a Roku TV, since my TV doesn't have a USB port. My VCR/DVD Player has a VGA port, which I think is for hooking up a computer monitor, right? Do Roku TV's have a talking feature that allows sight challenged customers like me to access menus like the TV guide? How much is Xfinity TV with channels like Nickelodeon, The Weather Channel, VH1, The Golf Channel, Cartoon Network, MTV, Nicktoons Network, Universal Kids, Food Network, and the Music Choice channel series? Are their taxes and fees involved in the full price?

Roku doesn't use VGA - I connect my Roku box to my TV with an HDMI cable.

I suggest going to the Best Buy website and searching on "roku tv" to see what is available. Most, if not all, of them should have remotes that you can speak into.

Also note that the Universal Kids channel no longer exists - it closed last March.

@ThatDonGuy The Universal Kids channel closed last March? That's a shame! What happened to it? Were they not getting enough funds?

@Annabelle2 Yes, Roku has voice control, which can be used with a compatible voice remote or the mobile app to search for content, launch apps, control playback, and adjust TV settings. Some remotes offer push-to-talk functionality, while certain newer models, like the Roku Voice Remote Pro, also provide hands-free voice controls by saying "Hey Roku".

Have you looked at the programming you would like for your TV services? If not the link: https://www.xfinity.com/learn/channel-lineup can be helpful in deciding the cable package you would be most interested in. -Dena

@XfinityDena What I mean by voice accessibility is, do these remotes have a screenreader voice that talks to you? Something like Cortana, Siri, Alexa, or any other screenreader voice.

@Annabelle2 Our Xfinity boxes offer a voice guidance setting that can be turned on for the system to read menu options out loud through the TV to assist will customer's with visual impairments still hear what they are selecting. I believe Roku offers a similar setting that can be turned on. But nothing on the remotes specifically it would all be communicated through the TV volume.

I wonder if a Roku TV comes with all the Xfinity channels in a package. Someone explained to me that there's "Choice TV", "Popular", and "Ultimate". What's the difference between those?

@Annabelle2

Those are our different channel tier. Choice Tv being the basic one, Popular being the more standard channels and probably pur most chosen plan, and Ultimate being close to the full lineup minus the Premium Movie channels and specific additional add-ons.  The link below you can put in your address, and it will show a breakdown of the channels that come in each tier and you can check which tier your favorite channels are a part of.

If you choose to use Roku instead of our Xfinity cable boxes you would download our Xfinity Stream app on you Roku device and then sign in to your Xfinity account. Which ever tier of channels you pay for determines what you will be able to access on Roku.

@Annabelle2 This is a great question! All Xfinity customers can download the Xfinity Stream app or visit the Xfinity Stream portal, log in with your Xfinity ID and password and start enjoying available content.
An Xfinity TV subscription is not required to use the Xfinity Stream app or portal, but different Xfinity services do offer different content.

I have a link with some of our frequently asked questions for our Xfinity Stream App: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/tv-app-overview.

@Annabelle2 It does look like that is a Fire TV and should be compatible with the Xfinity Stream app based on what I'm seeing in this link: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/stream-app-on-amazon-fire.

I just recently ordered my Insignia Fire TV, and it's now on its way! Yayyyyy! I just got off the phone with Ivan at the Accessibility department, and he says I don't need an additional set top box to access cable channels from Xfinity, just the Xfinity Stream app and my new TV. I wonder how much a Cable subscription costs per month. If I'm not mistaken, I think there's "Digital Starter", "Digital Preferred", and "Digital Premiere". Or are they under different names now?

The names may be different, but they are the same great plan with more! Our Digital Preferred is now called "TV Premium". This plan is actually better than our legacy Digital Preferred as it includes 300 hours of Cloud DVR Storage and a 4k X1 set-top box for no additional charge.

A set-top box is no required and you can opt to use the Xfinity Stream App. The cost is also all-inclusive with no additional Broadcast TV Fee and Regional Sports Fee. The plans and pricing can be found within the link above before the Xfinity Internet cost. You can access any and all our TV plans with or without a set-top box along with many other eligible devices from phones, tablets, computers and more.

That is one of my favorite features as I can use the Xfinity Stream App on my mobile phone while away from home to stay up to on all the sports that I watch @Annabelle2.
