TV channel

Why does one tv in our home when we turn it on always turns on to MSNBC even if it’s not the last channel we watched

Having the same problem…

I have had this issue for about a week.

I found a suggestion on the Roku community to delete the channel.

My channel was on my favorites list. I removed it and the last channel watched was there at startup.

I tested on other channels, and it still worked.

I added the channel back to my favorites and the last channel watched was still there.

I waited overnight to make sure it worked when I turned on the tv and the last channel watched was there.

@user_5a91ee That’s a great suggestion if you have a favorite channels list. We do not have a favorite channels list. I have tried clearing history on both sets and that does no good either.

Its certainly worth a try for those that do have a favorites list.

I didn't have any channels listed as favorites, but I went to the Guide and set the "default" channel to favorite and then removed it from favorites. Fingers crossed, so far it's working. Thanks for the tip!

@cmparker Did you set the channel as a favorite and then immediately remove it? Did you perform any other steps at all? I tried adding ABC as a favorite and removed it but it didn’t work for me. Exactly how did you do this?

@desmo1565 Sorry, I haven't been on here in a few days. Yes, I set the channel as a favorite and then removed it immediately. It worked for a couple of times, but then went back to Soundscapes. Lately it's been working as intended (last channel when turned on), but usually it comes up to the Soundscapes channel.

@cmparker I have not been here much either in the last two weeks. Unfortunately, I am not even home where I could try some more troubleshooting. But I appreciate the update on your situation.

I am also having this issue and it started about a month ago.  I have a DVR and a wireless cable box and this behavior is occurring on both cable boxes, but they are not defaulting to the same channel when powering on.  The DVR defaults to NBC 10 ( ch 810) and the 2nd box defaults to MSNBC (ch 818).  When I watch these channels, I use the 1000+ channels and not the ones on the 800s.

I have performed a System Refresh on both cable boxes and there was no change.  I chatted online with a support representative and was just told that I needed a tech visit.   None of the other services on my home have a signal or connection problem that would require a technician visit.

I have also gone through every menu setting and I cannot find a setting that needs to be changed.  I hope to get some resolution to this.  Thank you in advance.

Hello @MarkRevel Thank you for reaching out through our forum. I'm sorry to hear that you are having the same issue. Do you have these channels listed on your favorites list by any chance?

Yes they are tagged as favorites, but they have been favorites for quite a while before this behavior started

@MarkRevel You can change the view of the Guide by pressing the button. Is it set to favorite or all?

The guide is set to "Free to Me".   I have not made any changes to the settings in the guide, favorites, or any of the other settings around the time this started happening.

@MarkRevel Thank you for letting us know. It sounds like we have previously tried all remote troubleshooting. The next option would be to send a technician out to take a look.

Same thing happening here but turns on to Music Choice Soft Rock, not the last channel tuned to. This just started happening this week.

Having the same issue…started a week ago. Yes it is one of my favorites. Tried Restart.  Tried system update. Bottom line this is an xfinity issue with multiple STALL tactics and no fixes..,,as though all the people with this problem have been making this up. Money is most important to Xfinity

Hi there. I am sorry to hear this issue is happening for you as well. Some others in this thread have suggested adding the MSNBC channel as a favorite, then immediately removing it. Have you tried this possible solution? What other troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

I have the same issue. All TVs now start up with the Tennis Channel vs the last on viewed prior to turning it off.

It began about a week ago. Have tried the proposed solutions found in this thread and nothing has fixed this issue

This is most likely not the fix for any of you, but it is my solution.  I do not turn my box off when I'm finished watching tv.  I turn my tv off instead.  That way, when I turn my tv back on my last station comes up.

@Again Right. Keep that electric meter spinning. Comcast don't care.

I am having the same problem but the random default channel is TNT. Xfinity, don't keep asking everyone who has this problem the same questions, just fix it. We've all done all the things.

For reasons I can’t explain, this situation has seemed to righted itself on the two TV’s that were defaulting to the wrong channel when powering up. For the past few days, the two TV’s are opening to the last channel watched when powered on.

No idea if this behavior will continue, but for now, all seems to be working as it should.

My TV is working normally too, for the past few days. Fingers crossed the glitch has been taken care of.
