SD TV channels still

Why are there still several channels still only available in SD and not HD?  I am in Anne Arundel County, MD, and all the local Baltimore channels are in HD, but the only Washington, DC channel available in HD is Fox 5.  Is there away to get the other DC channels in HD?

People I know in the same area that have FIOS get all local channels for both cities in HD.  It is 2025.  10 years ago this was understandable, but by now all channels should be HD.

Hello, @msul_1969! Thank you for reaching out about the local channels from Washington D.C. coming through to your home in HD. The Voice Remote is the easiest way to search and see if there is an HD option for the channel. You can view your channel lineup by visiting My Channel Lineup and entering your Xfinity ID, email address or mobile phone number and password to browse your customized channel lineup. Either way will show if there is an HD option on a different channel number that you could watch instead.

I also like to have the auto-tune to the best available resolution setting enabled. This will always tune to the HD channel vs. the SD channel if there is an alternate option.

  1. Using your remote, press the xfinity button to bring up the on-screen menu.
  2. Highlight Settings (the gear icon) and press OK.
  3. Highlight Preferences and press OK.
  4. Highlight General and press OK.
  5. Press the down arrow and highlight Prefer Best Available Resolution. Then press OK to toggle the feature on or off.
  6. Press Exit to finish.
