Reruns are often listed as NEW
Many times, series episodes are listed as NEW when they are actually RERUNS. This causes the scheduled recording to record these reruns, even though settings are set to only record NEW episodes.
One example is Undercover Billionaire on Discovery Channel. It recorded four hours of reruns because they were marked as NEW in the guide.

Comcast only brings you the content; they have no way of correcting what the guide shows.

Comcast gets the guide data from Gracenote, and Gracenote gets their data from the networks and local TV stations. It's up to them to provide correct data.
Also, Discovery is well known for repackaging older shows, especially those with multiple segments, into "new" shows, often based around a single theme. I deal with it all the time on Science. Often, the key is that it is more than the normal program length, or on a different day of the week, or there are multiple shows on the same day.

That sometimes is because a separate channel owned by a company is listed as new on the channel that now has the show. Discovery is good for that. I guess they go by the old saying: If you have not seen it before it is new to you. 😁
