Regional sports fee

Why am I paying for regional sports fee when I cannot watch regional sports?  I don’t consider CU/Rams college games worth the price.

Hello @amcal421, thank you for taking the time to reach out on social media. The Regional Sports Network Fee is an itemized charge on your bill based on our costs of providing the regional sports networks we carry on our cable systems in each area. These costs include the fees that RSNs charge us to carry them on our cable systems, fees that are among the fastest growing components of our programming costs. The RSN Fee isn't a government-imposed or mandated fee and increases from time to time.

So when you remove the RSN channels from your 120+ Channel lineup how are you still able to charge my bill for a regional sports fee?

@user_s9loii Most of the channel lineups would include RSNs. Here is a link to the channel lineups in your area, https://www.xfinity.com/learn/channel-lineup-bundles. There is no way to remove specific channels from the channel lineup as they are bundled. We do have our Now TV package which does not include sports channels and would not include any additional fees. Here is a link with more information, https://www.xfinity.com/nowtv.

The Local Sports channels were removed from the local 125 channel list and moved to the 185 channel Ultimate TV package, which costs $18.50 more per month (plus $10.55 for regional sports.) But the 125 channel package still has the $10.55 fee for Regional Sports....though there are no regional sports left!!! So this fee covers nothing. Why not add that fee to the Ultimate package where the Regional sports actually are. It was bad enough to be pushed to the more expensive Ultimate package to see local MLB and College games. It's a bigger insult when one cannot opt out.

Better yet, let me keep the local sports in the 125 channel package and add $5 to that fee. I do not need to pay $18.50 to add 60 channels when I only want to see a single Root sport channel!!

Hello @user_fxriv5. We appreciate you reaching our team on our Forums page regarding the local sports channel. We regularly review our channel lineups and sometimes make changes to ensure we're offering a wide variety of content at the best value. Unfortunately most channels are not a la carte. However, if you're interested we do have our More Sports and Entertainment Package and you can learn more here.

I am also frustrated that Xfinity removed the REGIONAL Pittsburgh Sports Network but continues to charge me a Regional Sports Fee of $14 month. The Penguins and the Pirates broadcasts were the ONLY reason I upgraded my TV stream, now Xfinity wants another $20+. Soooooo greedy and manipulative. Can that Regional Sports Fee be removed?

Hello @user_llbdp8, thank you for taking the time to reach out on social media.

The Regional Sports Network (RSN) is an itemized charge on your bill based on our costs of providing the regional sports networks we carry on our cable systems in each area. These costs include the fees that RSNs charge us to carry them on our cable systems, fees that are among the fastest growing components of our programming costs. The RSN Fee isn't a government-imposed or mandated fee and increases from time to time.

Comcast’s network carriage costs, primarily regional sports network programming costs, are subject to change due to a number of factors including new contract negotiations, contractual rate changes and ownership changes. In order to avoid frequent changes in our monthly recurring charges, Comcast determines annually the monthly charge for the RSN Fee based upon the carriage costs that we anticipate will be incurred on a per subscriber basis in the upcoming year.

The only sports I watch on cable are also broadcast over-the-air. The Cubs and the Bears. I watch a few Cubs games and a few Bears games per year. I don't watch them on a RSN channel and would not opt for or pay for an RSN channel if given the choice.

What is the justification in charging me a regional sports fee?

I received the following email in January. Why doesn't the bill I just received have the reduced RSF and additional credit as stated in the email?

Xfinity Entertainment Update

SportsNet Pittsburgh has moved to a different TV package

Our commitment to bringing you the best in entertainment requires working with programmers to offer a range of options while managing the rising costs of live sports and other programming.

As part of our new programming agreement with SportsNet Pittsburgh, the network has moved to our Digital Preferred/Ultimate TV package. As a result, the Regional Sports Network (RSN) fee for your current TV package will be reduced. When this new fee goes into effect, you may also receive a one-time credit to cover your previous bill cycle.

If you’re interested in adding SportsNet Pittsburgh back to your lineup, please call 1-800-XFINITY by January 30 for details on a special price.

Thank you for being an Xfinity customer.

My RSF was reduced a whopping $1. !!

So am I to believe that the largest regional sports network in the Pgh Metro accounts for on $1 of the RSF.

Xfinity-if you weren't the only available supplier in our town I'd drop this Comcast scam

This is exactly what is going on in Colorado. We are no longer able to watch any of our local NBA,NHL, MLB, or MLS teams via Comcast yet we are still being charged $12 for “regional broadcast fee”. It is out of control.

I believe the regional broadcast fee and regional sports fees are two separate fees.

One is for local channels.

One is for regional sports.

I could be wrong about this though. I thought I was wrong once but then discovered I was actually right!
