Loss of Channel 7 (ABC) Denver Colorado

I was gone from March 31 through April 13.  On April 14th, I was dismayed to see that Channel 7 was no longer part of the Xfinity package I have purchased and am still paying for.  There are many programs on ABC that I am missing.  A number of my friends are unhappy also with this development.  Please do what is needed to restore this channel to your lineup.

Hi there, we completely understand why this is frustrating, especially coming back and finding one of your main channels missing.

Right now, ABC (including your local Channel 7 in Denver) is unavailable due to ongoing negotiations with the station owner, E. W. Scripps Company. They’re seeking significantly higher rates, which would directly impact customers’ bills, so we’re working to reach an agreement that brings the channel back while keeping costs reasonable.

We know that doesn’t help in the moment, especially when you have shows you regularly watch, and we hear you (and your friends) on wanting it restored as soon as possible. While we don’t have a confirmed timeline yet, situations like this are actively being worked behind the scenes.

In the meantime, some ABC programming may still be available through the ABC app or other streaming services, depending on availability in your area.

We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, it does get passed along and helps in these negotiations.

This is complete hogwash, and all Xfinity cares about is growing profits.  The price I pay every month for Xfinity TV is outrageous, and I'm supposedly a "Diamond member", which means exactly nothing.

The statement that Xfinity would have to raise our rates if they accepted Scripps terms is ridiculous, only that they are unwilling to absorb the cost of doing business.

I plan to cancel Xfinity altogether, and I hope enough others do so as well so the cost of losing these broadcast channels becomes much higher to Comcast vs just eating the extra cost of local broadcasting.

How stupid does Comcast think it's customers are?   ... Comcast's actions answer the question.

DocShoe79, Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. Thank you for being open about how you’re feeling. I can absolutely hear how frustrated and disappointed you are, especially given how much you’re paying and the expectations that come with being a Diamond member. Anyone would be upset by an unexpected loss of channels and feeling like loyalty isn’t being recognized. I want to be transparent about what’s happening. The channels owned by E.W. Scripps are currently unavailable because Comcast’s agreement with that network has expired. While Comcast does pay programmers to bring channels to customers, Scripps has not accepted the terms offered so far. Comcast is continuing discussions, but only with pricing and conditions aimed at avoiding even higher costs being passed on to customers. I understand why that explanation still feels unsatisfying, especially when you’re on the receiving end of the impact. I’m really sorry for the disruption to your TV lineup. Even when these situations are outside of our control, the inconvenience and frustration they cause are very real, and I don’t take that lightly.

If you’d like, I can help in a few ways:

  • Review your current plan to ensure you are recieving the best products and services that fulfill your household's goals
  • Or assist you directly if you’ve decided that canceling service is the right next step for you. We would surely miss your business.

More information about the programming change is available here if helpful here. Please let me know how you’d like to move forward. My goal is to support you in the way that makes the most sense for you, whether that’s adjusting your services or helping with next steps.

I couldn’t agree more with the frustration in this thread. With the Nuggets on channel 7 this weekend, XFinity customers have no way of watching. The best part was when I called XFinity, they told me I could get the game by subscribing to another streaming service! So, I could pay someone else to give me what I’m already paying XFinity to not provide? They did give me a discount on my bill, which only goes to show they can afford to settle this. And we still can’t get this weekends game.
