KBS America (Channel 197)

Today we discovered that Channel 197, which was the KBS America Korean channel, is missing from the Xfinity line-up.  We have enjoyed this channel for many years and wanted to know what happened, and if it will be coming back.

I communicated with Xfinity Support through the Direct Messaging as indicated.  This is what they told me,

Noted on the last page of your May 5th billing statement it says, "TV Update: Effective June 25, 2025, KICU-KBS will no longer be available on Xfinity." We apologize for the inconvenience.

So, it looks like the KBS America on Channel 197 is gone.  They could not say whether it was coming back.

The "inconvenience" is paying for hundreds of channels we never watch and you dropping one of the few channels we DO watch! You are making it very easy to drop Xfinity now. Please put KBS American back on Xfinity - you are excluding a large audience.

Hello user_kvcusk ,  Unfortunately at this time we no longer have a contract to carry that channel. We have no further update on any contract negotiations or a timeline for it to be restored at this time.

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon or  https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

- As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

- An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

Press Enter to send it.

I too am looking for the KBS Channel 197.  It works in Concord CA but not in Walnut Creek CA.  What's going on?

Honestly, if you are unable to bring back KBS America you are one step closer to making expensive Xfinity cable TV, functionally obsolescent for our needs, and making easier to change to much less expensive options for our tv viewing

I don’t know why 197 is gone.

You can still watch it at 36-2 (KBSA) using your TV antenna (INPUT).

What brand/model tv antenna are use using?

I have a tv with antenna but don’t get 36.2 and from what I can tell I should have a 

“Good” signal and should be able to get that station.

Please bring back channel 197!  I miss my Korean dramas!  Since my package doesn't include many other channels, I might need to cancel my Comcast subscription.

Please return channel 197 KBS , Korean Broadcasting System. I totally miss my Korean dramas.  I don want to change to Direct TV that offers that channel.  I have had Comcast for over 40 years , I don’t want to change but I will, if needed.

I happened to see the channel listed again as I was scrolling through the user guide.  I had been hoping that would happen!  I remember previously the channel was also removed and then later brought back.  It might have been due to the owner of the local channel (KEMS) needing to negotiate their contract with Comcast.  Hopefully, I can get caught up again with my favorite dramas!
